Opening with a melancholic guitar line, the first song Saturn Takes Over sets the overall mood of the EP. Nïsti creates an atmosphere and gloom and captures the theme of suffering using lamenting vocal lines courtesy of Arbjana Meta. The song catches listeners off-guard with crushing doom metal riffs while the band also supplements them with ambient synth melodies in the background.
As a whole, “Lua Mater” is full of twists and turns and is a far cry away from repetitive doom metal music. Grief is usually known to be a silent emotion but inside the mind it can be a loud process. The four-track EP explores grief through distinct layers, reflecting the lyrical concept at the heart of the release. “Lua Mater” is an EP that embraces slow and atmospheric guitar lines, lamenting vocals, aggressive guitar riffs, and mournful synth lines.
The EP’s name is inspired by Lua Mater, also known as Lua Saturni, a Roman Goddess associated with Saturn. Her name derives from the word luō, which in Latin means “to lose” and carries other meanings of liberation, freedom, and redeeming. Lua can be considered as a force of contradiction, involving the dissolution of social order and destruction while carrying liberation and freedom. The EP takes the listener into a journey of melancholy and self-reflection while at the same time showing the anger and desperation that arises throughout this process.
Nïsti’s had this to add about “Lua Mater”:
“For each abundance might come to a dissolution and freedom requires letting go and making amends for the time lost. On the EP we tackled topics such as melancholy and loss in the song “Saturn Takes Over”, anger and suppressed feelings in the song “Sinner”, self abandonment and destruction in the song “Naked” and anger towards a political system seemingly collapsing and darkening each passing day in the song “Hëna” which means Moon in Albanian. Lua represents the contradictions and destruction represented in the EP as well as the freedom and liberation arising at the end of the tunnel.”
Nïsti is preparing to go on the road and play live shows in Germany and Belgium in the near future, with a confirmed live show on the 25th of October at Bar Oswald in Ghent, Belgium where they will be supporting Samavayo.

Nïsti bio:
Nïsti is a synth-doom metal trio from Aachen, Germany, whose music carves a space between devastating intensity and haunting atmosphere. With a foundation built on crushing doom metal riffs, progressive structures, sludge-driven heaviness, and moments of raw noise, their sound is paradoxical in nature: shifting from dreamy passages into brutal breakdowns, a collision of delicate introspection and oppressive weight.
The band’s name originates from the writings of the 17th-century Iranian philosopher Mulla al-Sadra, who described “Nïsti” as “Nothingness” in Persian, or “Realm of absolute nonexistence.” This title perfectly reflects the band’s vision, an exploration of darkness, void, and inner collapse, but also a means toward transformation and catharsis. Nïsti do not create songs simply to be heard, but experiences to be endured, journeys where the listener is invited to confront trauma, despair, and eventually the healing hidden within pain.
Nïsti was formed in Aachen through spontaneous jam sessions between its founding members. Despite having no recorded material, the raw force of their live performances made a mark on the local scene from the very beginning. Within less than a year of existing, Nïsti were performing across Aachen, throughout the surrounding region, and even across the border in the Netherlands.
With the release of the band’s debut EP, Lua Matter, Nïsti are set to perform live shows across northern Germany to showcase their creative take on the doom metal genre. The release represents a first chapter, but also a statement of intent, dissecting the boundaries between doom, sludge, and post metal while maintaining a brutal honesty that underpins everything they create.
Nïsti’s music is heavy, emotional, and unflinchingly direct. It strikes without warning, pulling listeners into deep waters and leaving them suspended in the tension between collapse and release. Their identity as a multicultural band, with roots in Albania, Iran and Germany, adds another layer of duality to their work: displacement and belonging, silence and noise, destruction and renewal.
