Born from a meeting of kindred spirits, Rosarius and Walran, two souls with a love and appreciation for the most melancholic of music, in 2007, Angellore has gone on to become more than either of its two creative progenitors could have dared to hope for. Following their own unique pathway through the woods of folklore and imagination, the French purveyors of boundless gothic doom infused with powerful emotion, have released two EPs and three full length albums that have won the hearts of fans and garnered a glittering horde of critical acclaim. Respected review site Angry Metal Guy compared 2020 album Rien Ne Devait Mourir to “…a distant light on the horizon, comforting just for the mere experience of its existence.” Yet, unbeknownst to all but the band and their inner circle, a fourth album has been slowly, painfully taking shape in the shadows, behind the curtain and beyond the spotlight’s glare, since 2010. Now, nearly ten years after its writing process began, Angellore are ready to reveal their most ambitious, powerful and inspired creation to date – Nocturnes.

Across five epic and immersive tracks Angellore transport the listener to a different world; a world of storm-tossed nights and desperate love, of magic, majesty and melancholy. Deep rivers of emotion run through every moment of this mesmerizing album as flute, oboe, bass clarinet, cello and piano entwine with the powerful guitars and vibrantly varied vocals to create richly textured layers of sound that embrace, then consume. From ‘Black Sun River’, its masterful melodies laced with a bitter draught of hemlock, to ‘Martyrium’s starlit skies, secretive shadows and undying love and the final pastoral lament of ‘A Dormant Stream’, to listen to Nocturnes is to be drawn into its haunting, folkloric atmosphere, its drama and tragedy, to become rapt in its unfolding dark fairytale and leave the world behind.

Written over years and recorded in multiple locations across Europe, Nocturnes birth has been far from easy. However, all the trials and tribulations of its creation have added to the poignancy and power of its final splendour. Expertly engineered and meticulously mixed by Déhà (Inborn Suffering, Wolvennest, Cult Of Erinyes etc) and intuitively mastered by Markus Skroch (October Falls, Sig:Ar:Tyr, The Chasm etc), Nocturnes’ full potential has been realised; its many magical elements allowed to breathe, its visionary songs allowed to fly. Swathed in the evocative artwork of the band’s own Florent ‘Celin’ Castellani, Angellore’s greatest work so far in their storied career will be released by Ardua Music on May 15th. Nocturnes will capture the hearts of all those who give themselves over to its twilight enchantment.
