IN / VERTIGO were founded in Calgary, Canada, in 2016 by seasoned musicians. With a multitude of energetic live shows, the band has already made a name for itself in western Canada. They have shared the stage with great bands such as Buckcherry, Steel Panther, Bret Michaels, Bif Naked, Diamond Head and Pop Evil. So far, they have released a demo and the EP ‘Sex Love & Chaos’. ‘Prevail’ is therefore the band’s second EP.
‘Weathervane’ is a powerful Rock stomper, characterised above all by Reed Alton’s charismatic vocals. Riffs boom out of the speakers again and again, accompanied by a huge guitar solo. ‘Save Me’ shifts into the high-speed realm. Wild drumming drives the guitarists and the singer. And the guitar solo sounds just as wild. ‘Liar’ is then a little quieter and more structured in terms of rhythm. Compared to the previous song, singer Reed Alton sounds almost gentle in places. I probably don’t need to mention that there is another great guitar solo here. ‘Euphoria’ has a live atmosphere – cheering fans at the beginning and end. The song is a bit calmer and very rhythmic. The refrain invites you to sing along. This song is my favourite on the EP.
With ‘Prevail’, the Canadians have produced a fine piece of Hard Rock. Four varied songs can be heard. The EP is very powerfully produced. I can well imagine the energy that IN / VERTIGO exude at concerts. However, the EP does have one ‘flaw’. With only thirteen minutes, the playing time is quite short.
