It certainly wasn’t easy for the Swiss band Infinitas when long-time singer Andrea Böll left the band in 2020. In the middle of the corona pandemic. But a replacement was found soon with Mary Crane. The change on the violin also had to be coped with. The last studio album ‘Infernum’ was released in 2019, and now the Swiss band is venturing a fresh start with a new line-up. A crowdfunding campaign has been launched for this purpose. New song material is gradually being written. Songs have been released at more or less regular intervals since January 2023. ‘Fenris’ is now the fourth song with Mary Crane on the microphone.
‘Fenris’ gets off to a powerful start, with plenty of Folk Rock influences. Then singer Mary Crane surprises with evil but also melodic growls. While the drums are booming and the riffs are banging out of the speakers, the violin, which is part of the band’s regular repertoire, can be heard again and again. And Mary also repeatedly contributes clear vocal passages with her beguiling voice. The change between growls and clear vocals is seamless. Although you hear this more and more often, I am always impressed by this change.

That’s what you can read in the press release. I would add ‘influenced by Folk Rock/Metal’. ‘‘Fenris’ wants to encourage you to recognize and question your inner restraints’ is another quote. And yes, the song spreads a lot of positive vibes. And it provides a taster of the new album ‘Tellus’. In the band’s crowdfunding campaign, it was originally announced for 2025. However, it will probably not be released until the beginning of next year. The anticipation is great. Especially after listening to this single several times.
