What was the beginning pint for your music career? How did it all start?
A Brave Face was formed in 2021 by Richard Hardy and Jonathan Robinson. We released our first EP in 2022, after turning ABF from a side project to our main musical outlet. We both can from a death metal/ metalcore back ground but wanted todo something more upbeat and rocky with this band.
Was there any bumps on the road? What kind of challenges did you have to deal with?
Just the normal genre changing hiccups, trying to go from writing faster more aggressive types of songs to ones that where more catchy and poppy.
What was the most fulfilling and satisfying moment so far?
Being asked to join the ranks of content creators for a marketing campaign called #unfuckyourfeelings. The goal is bring awareness and help to men better deal with there own feelings and get help if need be, as well a providing resources for them to do so.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
Pop/Rock, but with our metal backgrounds we incorporated a lot of slowed down metal/hardcore beats, we drop into half time occasionally and one song even has a break down.
What is your creative process like?
We work really well together, coming from bigger band backgrounds we know how hard it can be to flesh out an idea when everyone in the room is talking. Also being life long friends helps too, we know when one of us is being adamant about an idea and give each other the opportunity to let it play out.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
Less bots and spammers, nothing is more irritating then getting a messege seemingly from someone interested in helping your band, and then comes the price points for there service. Which consists of them sharing a post to their followers, thanks for the help.
If you were asked to give a piece of advice to upcoming bands, what would that be?
Have fun with it and make music that makes up happy. In the end it shouldn’t feel like work.
What has been the best performance of your career so far?
We haven’t played a show as ABF yet we are hoping to get out and gigging by this summer
If you didn’t become a musician, what would you be doing now?
Still just working our day jobs, but we also have many mediums that we work in besides music. Like Painting, Photography, and Graphic design so there will always be an avenue for our creativity.
What is new with the band at the moment? What are you currently working on and would like to share with the world?
We are currently working on a Piano/Vocal version of our EP that should be out next month l, and we are recording a couple new singles we plan to release this spring.
