What was the beginning pint for your music career? How did it all start?
Well, my dad learned guitar late in life and taught my brothers, who in turn, taught me. I began arranging chords and writing right away. We started a band eventually and plugged away for years. When the band dissolved, I headed out as a soli act under my nickname, dustybonez.
Was there any bumps on the road? What kind of challenges did you have to deal with?
There’s always been challenges. More recently, the biggest challenge is the time and money required to promote online.
What was the most fulfilling and satisfying moment so far?
Last fall I was able to record in Nashville including a song I wrote for my daughter called “Olivia Smiles” which is about her battles with depression and anxiety and surviving through several attempted suicides.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
I attempt to write from a personal place about the struggles in life and the hope in God that brings you through them. Stylewise, I attempt to write songs that will survive the test of time.
What is your creative process like?
I usually just start strumming different chord progressions until a melody comes, then I hum the melody until a phrase or two comes and an idea will usually develop from there.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I would make it easier for the independent artist to be heard and find their audience and stop the platforms from burying you unless you pay for their advertising .
If you were asked to give a piece of advice to upcoming bands, what would that be?
Stay true to who you are and play what you enjoy. Be business minded but always have fun.
What has been the best performance of your career so far?
I don’t know about best but usually the really good ones are on the nights when the audience is thereto really hear music and you connect with them.
If you didn’t become a musician, what would you be doing now?
Being miserable lol
What is new with the band at the moment? What are you currently working on and would like to share with the world?
My new single “Back To Start” came out in Oct. And I am currently preparing to release my next one “Olivia Smiles” and begin booking for 2025!
