What was the beginning point for your music career? How did it all start?
EXXASENS began as a personal project in 2007. I was inspired by the vastness of space, and my love for post-rock allowed me to channel those ideas into music. The early tracks were recorded in my home studio in Barcelona, focusing on instrumental storytelling.
Were there any bumps on the road? What kind of challenges did you have to deal with?
Absolutely. Transitioning from a solo project to a full band was a challenge, especially in finding like-minded musicians who shared my vision. Another obstacle has been the niche nature of instrumental rock, which doesn’t always get the mainstream attention it deserves. However, we’ve built a loyal following over time.
What was the most fulfilling and satisfying moment so far?
Playing Dunk!Festival in Belgium was a dream come true. It’s one of the most iconic festivals for post-rock and instrumental music. The energy of the crowd and the connection we felt were unforgettable.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
Our music is cinematic, atmospheric, and deeply emotional. It’s a mix of post-rock, progressive elements, and a touch of space-inspired melodies. We aim to take listeners on a journey—each album tells a story.
What is your creative process like?
It often starts with a concept or a theme. From there, melodies come naturally, and I start layering instruments. Sometimes, the process feels like painting; each sound adds a layer of emotion or texture. The band collaborates to refine the compositions and bring them to life.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I’d like to see more support for underground and independent bands. Streaming platforms have revolutionized access to music, but the financial model needs improvement to better support artists, especially those in niche genres.
If you were asked to give a piece of advice to upcoming bands, what would that be?
Be patient and authentic. It’s easy to get discouraged when things don’t happen quickly, but building a lasting career takes time. Focus on making music you truly love and finding your audience—it’s worth the effort.
What has been the best performance of your career so far?
Dunk!Festival 2014 was a highlight, but another incredible moment was playing in Moscow in front of fans who sang along to every melody. The passion of fans outside of Spain is humbling and inspiring.
If you didn’t become a musician, what would you be doing now?
I’ve always had a passion for space and science. I think I’d be involved in something related to astronomy or engineering, exploring the unknown in another way.
What is new with the band at the moment? What are you currently working on and would like to share with the world?
We released our new album, INFINITUM in November and now we’re planning a European tour for 2025, which we can’t wait to announce officially!
