What was the beginning pint for your music career? How did it all start?

I first started doing music back in 2012/13, I was writing songs and decided to go out and play them! It was terrifying for me at the time but I just wanted to go out and do it!

Was there any bumps on the road? What kind of challenges did you have to deal with?

It’s very difficult to do music a lot of the time, there’s a lot of financial obstacles and you have to be on it 24/7 so it’s very socially draining at times but I wouldn’t change it for the world!

What was the most fulfilling and satisfying moment so far?

Easily playing gigs to audiences that have come just to see you play, and when you get a huge applause / reaction at the end of songs. It’s super lovely to know people are interested in what you do!

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

I coin it as “folk-grunge”, singer songwriter elements with more grungy influences at times! There’s a lot of influence in my songs, from hip-hop to alternative rock but that’s really the main ones.

What is your creative process like?

I just try and get myself into a space where I’m just focusing on the music. Once I do that, the music often just flows out of me!

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

There’s a lot wrong with the music industry but i think the main one is the financial barriers that are in place ie. pay to play, paid reviews, costly advertising and marketing – a lot of it really means that working-class and less well-off artists really struggle, even though they often are the ones who work the hardest!

If you were asked to give a piece of advice to upcoming bands, what would that be?

I think probably that you have to put in the graft for it. It’s not just performing but also showing your face at other gigs, supporting other bands and artists and just having a laugh and making friends!

What has been the best performance of your career so far?

I’d probably say that back at the launch for my latest EP – it was proper lovely with a great crowd and it was super inspiring on stage to have people down for it!

If you didn’t become a musician, what would you be doing now?

To be honest, I have no idea! I’ve worked towards this point for so long now and from a young age – I think I was always meant to do this haha.

What is new with the band at the moment? What are you currently working on and would like to share with the world?

As mentioned before, I put out my latest EP “a northern perspective”! I’ve done a few music videos for the tracks as well, you can find them all on my YouTube at https://youtube.com/@michaelwebstermusic!
