Interview With Noctiferia

By Keith Clement

Greetings from Metalheads Forever Magazine, how are you today?

Hi there, pretty great, thanks for asking. We are finishing the new album with 3 special guests so it’s  busy time for us.

Tell us how Noctiferia is formed?

It’s a story of friends from elementary school who started listening to metal at the age of 13, got inspired and tried to create their own music. At first we were mostly influenced by bands like Morbid Angel and Sepultura and then became interested in Scandinavian scene with bands like Emperor, Dissection etc.

Can you tell us about the metal scene in Slovenia?

For such a small country we have quite a lot of bands at the moment. 20 years ago it was us and a few other bands so the scene is expanding. Main focus here is on stoner, heavy and black metal on my opinion but there are so many new bands I can’t keep track of them all which is good. We also have “Metaldays festival” which helps local bands plenty and two promotors “Dirty skunks” who are doing a lot to keep underground scene going.

You guys are making music since 1992, how has the journey been so far?

That info is kind of right. We recorded our first demo as Noctiferia in 1996 and had first live show in 1997 as support for Absu and Enslaved. We count that as a real beginning for us. So we’ve been around for a while and had our ups and downs but most importantly we got to see the world touring with bands we grew up listening to, worked with some amazing studio producers and learned a lot about the life on the way.

Started as Emetica and post 1994 as Noctiferia, what was the reason for the change in the bands name?

As I said before Noctiferia started in 1996, Emetica was just our first attempt at creating our own music, nothing serious, we were too young at the time.

What are the plans for 2019?

First we need to finish the new album “Reforma”. It’s a tribute to Laibach (legendary Slovenian avantagard band) featuring David Vincent (ex Morbid Angel, Vltimas), Attila Csihar (Mayhem) and Jorgen Munkeby (Shining) as special guest. We are also working on music video for first single. After all that we need to hit the road to support the release. Busy year ahead.

Do you have a message for the readers and fans?

Check out “Reforma” when it comes out, it’s an album like none other!
