What was the beginning point for your music career? How did it all start?

I suppose like many people that go on to make music, being around it loads growing up was a big part of it, but I think getting my first electric guitar around 15 years old and more or less hitting it with a distortion pedal triggered something for sure. From then I’ve been in various bands on and off and always made music in one way or another

Was there any bumps on the road? What kind of challenges did you have to deal with?

Not bumps in the road but life happens and so music works around that. I don’t think I’ve ever had delusions of grandeur about being famous or anything, jut wanted to make music I’d want to listen to and hopefully find an audience

What was the most fulfilling and satisfying moment so far?

For a few reasons, just finishing this album. I’ve always found it easy to generate song ideas but struggle to focus, so in the band before, we put out a bunch of singles but had 100’s of jam session ideas or tracks I’d started at home. Finishing it and being happy with it is just a great feeling – hopefully people will give it a listen and I’d love to hear what they make of it!

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

There’s always a kind of alt-rock core to it because I think that’s mainly musically who I am but being a one-person band, it’s allowed me to bring other influences in, so there’s an electronic element to it and some different styles I haven’t tried out before. It’d be great to keep exploring while having that more rocky base

What is your creative process like?

I try not to force it. I don’t learn other people’s songs so got in the habit of picking up an instrument and just playing how I’m feeling at the time. Sometimes I’ll record it as a voice memo on my phone, if I’m home I might jam the idea around with other instruments to capture the idea quickly and roughly then go back to it if the mood takes me.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

That’s a tough one. We’re in a place now where more or less anyone can make music, those with means can promote it but with that massive pool, it’s hard as a listener to find something you might like outside of the streaming platforms you might use. Anyone can blog too, which is awesome. Maybe we’re at the point where there’s a lot of everything and so attention is spread thin across them. Along with that, maybe we accept that the period in the last century of people buying music and having loads of big artists was a blip and not likely to be a thing again

If you were asked to give a piece of advice to upcoming bands, what would that be?

Do it because you love it, because you need to do it. Be yourself and step outside of your influences

What has been the best performance of your career so far?

I don’t know about best but I really enjoyed a show where we supported My Vitriol in Manchester along with The Empty Page. I really like that venue and had been a fan of MV since the beginning, so very cool

If you didn’t become a musician, what would you be doing now?

There’d be some creative outlet of some kind, I’m sure – possibly writing as I’ve dabbled with writing projects before. Maybe I’d be more serious about photography?

What is new with the band at the moment? What are you currently working on and would like to share with the world?

At this point, my first album ‘Any Minute Now’ is about to be released. The first single from it ‘Phantoms’ has been going down well so I’m happy. There’s always new song ideas happening so planning to record early next year to keep the momentum going
