FACTORY OF ART really not an unknown quantity in the German rock scene. Founded in Leipzig in 1990, the band can now look back on over three decades of experience. In the 90s, the “Kunstfabrik” was considered as THE East German heavy metal hope, which earned the band a record deal with the renowned AFM label.

Absolute musical uniqueness and performance professionalism in harmony with spectacular stage shows are the trademarks of the Leipzig formation, which can proudly boast a considerable range of renowned music awards (German Rock Prize 1993, Golden Rockinger 1994, winner of the “Unerhört! 2000” from Rock Hard magazine).

The story of FACTORY OF ART begins over 30 years ago, more precisely in 1990. Initially founded as a purely instrumental Art-Rock band in Leipzig, the formation quickly gained a good reputation as a live band. Their shows, which soon mutate into spectacles of light, fire and sound, bring FACTORY OF ART a lot of performances. The list of bands with which the band will now share stages is almost endless. In addition to a completed German tour with GRAVE DIGGER, the list also includes joint concerts with BLIND GUARDIAN, THRESHOLD, YNGWIE J. MALMSTEEN, GAMMA RAY and many other well-known acts from the scene.

After a total of three self-releases, the interest of a record company was finally aroused. The first album “Grasp!!!” was released in 1996 via AFM Records. The EP “Point Of No Return” was released there a year later. Shortly before the turn of the millennium, FACTORY OF ART presents a single “Story Of Pain”, which is distributed via In Any Case Records. Said single leads to a resounding success, culminating in first place in the “Unerhört!” competition of the renowned ROCK HARD magazine. The second album “The Tempter” was released in 2002 via the record company CCP Records. After this work, what was probably the most difficult time in the band’s history began, which resulted in the group’s dissolution in 2006.

It takes until 2019, then the band gets together with a new line-up and decides to restart. A short time later, the corona pandemic almost ruined the project. But the new FACTORY OF ART are not only creative, but also ambitious. After the pandemic, the third album “Back To Life” is in the starting blocks, which offers the band the usual quality but with a fresh and modern sound. All the more remarkable because the restrictions of the corona pandemic have taken a toll on the band. But the courage and absolute will to write new songs and realign the band as such was worth it. Persistence, good teamwork among each other and the ability of each band member to take criticism are important building blocks for FACTORY OF ART’s comeback. “Back To Life” is not “just” a new album. It proves once again that over thirty years with many ups and just as many downs have not driven the quartet to stagnation, but rather to peak performance.

“Back To Life” is not only musically a motivated and highly innovative album in every respect that is full of surprises. When it comes to the lyrics, “Back To Live” also has a lot to offer. In this regard, the album creates a wonderful arc from “Abysses” with its slightly dystopian description of everyday human relationships to “Back to Life”, the title track and last song of the album, which is about “emerging” from crises and abysses.

It was a great pleasure to have Thoralf the lead guitarist of the band to talk on Back To Life and much more on the legend of Factory Of Art. Check out the complete coverage on the below YouTube video.
