MIRRORTALK release gripping new single ‘Calm On The Surface’

New EP, ‘Where Does Everyone Go When I Need Them Most’, due out Nov 27th via Hassle Records
Headline EP release show announced for Nov 27th

Birmingham quartet Mirrortalk have released their gripping new single ‘Calm On The Surface’, the next track to be taken from their forthcoming EP Where Does Everyone Go When I Need Them Most, due out 27 November via Hassle Records.

Speaking of the new single Mirrortalk vocalist Mat Coffey shares, “’Calm On The Surface’ is about loss. It’s about the constant desire to seem okay, the front we put on, and the vulnerability we hide. But it’s also about how to draw strength from those you miss. Being calm on the surface and being truly calm are very different; this song seeks to help bridge the gap between the two.”

Recorded at Lower Lane Studios with Jonny Price the EP sees Mirrortalk build on their distinctive blend of post-hardcore urgency, shoegaze atmosphere and grunge-soaked intensity, combining jagged guitar work, towering melodies and raw emotion into their most defining release to date.

“Mirrortalk has always been built on a desire to combine all the music we loved growing up; but ‘Where Does Everyone Go When I Need Them Most’ is our greatest nod to that yet,” shares Mat. “Elements of metal and hardcore, shoegaze, and pure rock have gone into every track, making it feel like a new offering that is grounded in some familiarity for people who are fans of the same music as us.

Throughout our other releases we have tackled a lot of topics around mental health and self-battling. This continues through this release, but also touches on some other personal notes we hope people can feel connected to. “Where Does Everyone Go When I Need Them Most” is the best reflection of our direction, and we just hope people want to come along”

Mirrortalk will celebrate the release with a hometown headline show at Birmingham’s O2 Institute 3 on 27 November, where they will play the EP in full.

Talking on their upcoming headline show, the band share, “We’re absolutely buzzing to play our biggest headline yet in our home town. After a few years of playing most the venues around Brum, it’s class that we can bring something bigger and better for this next show.

We’re really proud of the new EP, and there’s a lot of personal connection to the songs for us, so getting to play the entirety of it is something we’ve been looking forward to for ages. But we also can’t wait to share the stage with friends and local talent.

Quality bands like Crush and Vienna are testament to the variety we have in Brum, and our mates from Head Cloud are some seriously talented people. We want to showcase some of the local scene, get people moving, and play some tunes we hope people connect with.”

About Mirrortalk:

Mirrortalk hit hard, loud and unrelenting. The Birmingham quartet pull from post-hardcore, shoegaze, ’90s heavy rock and grunge, crafting songs built for belting at the top of your lungs and losing yourself in the pit. For Mirrortalk, music isn’t just something you listen to, it’s the vibration of the amp, the crack of the snare and the collective chaos of a room moving as one.

In March 2026, the band signed to Hassle Records with the single ‘Circle The Drain’, marking a defining moment in their ascent. Speaking on the partnership, Mirrortalk said: “We’re absolutely buzzing to announce that we’ve been signed by Hassle Records. Their roster and work speaks for itself, and we can’t wait for everyone to hear the music we’re going to put out together. The tunes they’ve put out have touched so many people, including ourselves, so to be a part of it is amazing.”

Since forming, Mirrortalk have steadily established themselves as one of the UK’s most exciting emerging alternative bands. They’ve earned backing from BBC Radio 1 Introducing Rock with Alyx Holcombe, been named BBC Introducing Hereford & Worcester’s Artist of the Week, landed the cover of Spotify’s All New Rock playlist and received further editorial support across The Rock List, Anger Management and Adrenaline. On the road, they’ve shared stages with Casey, Split Chain, Mouth Culture, Oversize, Arm’s Length and Free Throw, building a reputation for explosive live shows that leave nothing behind.
