Miss Vain
Sempiternal Drive
Label: Inverse Records
Out: April 11th, 2025
Playing time: 21:37
The Finns from Miss Vain really made their mark in the summer two years ago with their debut EP ‘Crocus Biflorus’. The next EP ‘Sempiternal Drive’ followed in April. And this was recorded with the same line-up as its predecessor. But the information about the band is just as sparse as last time.
With ‘Now Or Neverland’, Miss Vain continue exactly where they left off on ‘Crocus Biflorus’. Hard riffs, driving drums and slightly raspy vocals characterise the song. Later it gets a little calmer but hardly quieter. ‘The Alchemist’ is darker, also thanks to the occasional interspersed growls. In ‘Remedy’, the riffs seem to gallop. Here too, evil growls can be heard again and again. There is also a catchy refrain. ‘Demon Spawn’ can definitely be described as evil. This is also and above all due to the growls. The title track ‘Sempiternal Drive’ follows at the very end of the EP. The synth sounds are actually unusual for Miss Vain. And can be heard not only at the beginning, but over the entire playing time. But here, too, there is a mixture of harsh and clear vocal sections.
Unfortunately, ‘Sempiternal Drive’ is also only an EP. And only has a longer playing time of three and a half minutes. But it is significantly heavier throughout than its predecessor. But the Finns should finally think about a full album. Now would be the time.
