For Lucy Mayhem ‘Into Hell’ is not just an EP; it’s her “villain origin story.” It delves deep into her ongoing struggle with mental health, personifying her depression and anxiety after more than eight years of battling these inner demons. “I’ve accepted that they’re a thing I have to deal with daily,” Lucy says. “At the same time, I choose to no longer settle, and let them completely control my life and whether or not I truly live.” This EP embodies her fight for control and serves as a beacon for those who feel similarly at war with themselves.
Speaking on the EP further Lucy states “For me, the meaning of the EP as a whole is that no matter how dark your brain is, there’s a glimmer of light in knowing you’re not alone in struggling, and there’s power in knowing that you can take back some control if you really want to.”
The lead single off the album ‘Save Me’ is a deeply personal track that reflects one of the most challenging periods in Lucy Mayhem’s life—dropping out of art school. The song explores the intense internal struggle between staying in a mentally unhealthy yet familiar place and the daunting journey towards self-discovery and healing. With themes of feeling stuck, battling oneself, and seeking liberation, ‘Save Me’ resonates with anyone who has ever felt trapped in a situation that stifles their spirit.
The accompanying music video, co-directed by Lucy Mayhem and her friend Gigi, takes a theatrical approach, portraying the beginning of the ‘Into Hell’ EP storyline. In the video, Lucy Mayhem makes a desperate deal with the devil to escape her situation, only to realize that the easy way out isn’t always the right way. The narrative illustrates that true escape and healing often come from facing hardships head-on.
