Brisbane Prog-Metal Rising Stars Release Immersive New Single ‘Oolacile’

Brisbane prog metal rising stars Citadel just released their immersive new single ‘Oolacile’.  Following the rapid success of their previous single ‘Malignant’, ‘Oolacile’ is a more vulnerable, intimate take on the band’s accessible-heavy brand.

The track is a testament to Citadel’s diversity as artists, with haunting piano interludes and subdued verses woven between its infectious riffs and commanding choruses. This is radio-ready progressive rock at its finest – tight, polished, and resoundingly clear. Citadel have chosen the perfect final offering ahead of their impending album release.

Vocalist Russell Miller speaks: “Lyrically this song tackles probably the heaviest subject matter on the album. The invasive, involuntary thoughts of both wanting to die, and also it being better for those around you if you were dead. At its core it’s an issue of self-worth, but sometimes the thoughts are fleeting, and sometimes they feel permanent.  When I’m in my emotional black hole and I’m in these thought patterns, it really consumes me and can feel like it’s the only thing going on in my head.  The song title ‘Oolacile’ is a Dark Souls reference. Oolacile is a town being slowly consumed by the abyss, which is referenced lyrically but also we felt that picture was fitting to the subject matter.”

Written and recorded with the esteemed producer Gareth Hargreaves (Polaris, Young Lions, The Brave), the quintet blends djent, metalcore and hard rock influences with an affinity for high quality production. Anthemic stadium-ready choruses and infectious melodies make this an accessible track to please even the most stubborn listeners.

Coming off a sold out show with Voyager, the group has previously performed alongside Redhook, The Dead Love, Mass Sky Raid, The Stranger and have been featured on Triple J, Maniacs, Wall of Sound, The AU Review, Music Feeds, AAA Backstage, Spotify “Homegrown & Heavy” editorial playlist & more. With the release of ‘Oolacile’ and more new music on the horizon, we can’t wait to see Citadel stamp their name on the heavy music realm.
