The wait is over – it’s TIME for Lead Into Gold’s new album! Today, Lead Into Gold, AKA Paul Ion Barker (Al Jourgensen, Ministry, RevCo., USSA and more) releases “The Eternal Present” in full via Artoffact Records.
Out everywhere now, Lead Into Gold’s “The Eternal Present,” was written, produced, and mixed by Paul Ion Barker. The album is an adventurous romp through distorted and gnarly bass-driven industrial, where your greatest fears and dystopian dys-fantasies lay waiting for just a wee bit of courage, exploring everything except letting itself fade into the background. Its genre-defying and incredibly well-crafted story-telling will haunt you all year. The album is smart, dark, melodic, abrasive, and timeless. We would not expect anything less from Mr. Barker, but our expectations have been seriously blown out of the water on this one.
On the album, Barker comments: “The Eternal Present relates to an individual‘s desire to see beyond our current beliefs. And, of course, I love heavy music!”
The band has been keeping busy, releasing singles leading up to today’s full release and embarking on a legendary tour with Skinny Puppy (Skinny Puppy’s final tour ever!). We were given three singles prior to today’s release, most recently, “The Sea, The Sun, The Past, The Sum,” graced us with a title that invokes curiosity and a track on which Barker delivers lyrically with, “The sea begins a wonder, The sun foment and author, The past is past a nightmare, The sum cannot contain you.” The single’s not-so-subtle industrial prowess left one thing most certain, that we were in for an epic album – check it out below!

The second single, “She Lies Beyond”, to no surprise of anyone familiar with Paul Ion Barker/Lead Into Gold, is lyrically fervent and instrumentally, a force to be reckoned with. On the single, Barker comments: “Lyrically, She Lies Beyond is about the death of creativity but sonically is (hopefully) a contrast between pretty and ugly – the idea being that there is a natural grace to something ending but at the same time, the volition to create forces itself to be manifested. This is a natural cycle that everyone goes through in the creation of art.”
Barker is a producer, composer, and touring musician. His extensive production and writing work with AlJourgensenandMinistryextended from 1985 through 2004. He has been involved with bringing a wide range of other musical projects into fruition, including Lard, Pailhead, Revolting Cocks, Flowering Blight, USSA, and many others. Paul has toured as a member of Puscifer and collaborated with the likes of Jello Biafra, Ian MacKaye, Timothy Leary, and William Burroughs. He has also produced two wonderful records for I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness (secretly Canadian). Paul’s music has appeared in films including “River Wild“, “Robocop“, “Hardware“, “One Bad Cop“, “Natural Born Killers,” as well as Steven Spielberg’s “A.I.“, which included three original compositions written specifically for the movie and onscreen performances by Ministry.
Barker is also the co-owner and co-founder of Malekko Heavy Industry Corporation, a guitar effects pedal/euro rack synthesizer module manufacturing company growing steadily since 2006. Malekko Heavy Industry, based in Portland, is held in high esteem by professional musicians worldwide.
