MATTILHA continues to win fans and show that Brazilian rock is still alive, strong and has a lot to say. One year after the success of the EP ‘Coração Anárquico’, the band returns with the challenging single “Tempestade”, now available on the main digital platforms and accompanied by a visualizer produced by Canil Records and directed by Guilherme Kim.
The single marks a new phase for the band, with an intimate composition process becoming a very enriching experience for the band: “It was the first time we had of isolating ourselves from the world, taking a weekend and getting the whole band together, in one place with the sole objective of making music. It was something we wanted to do for a long time, and we realized that today, amidst the hustle and bustle of life, the only time we can stop and focus on making music is when we are disconnected from the world”, says drummer Ian Bueno.
“Tempestade” draws attention for its sound that is different from other releases. A great nostalgic gem, the song is full of references from the 80s and 90s, maintaining the band’s well-known hard rock atmosphere, but with a more modern and heavy sensibility, showing MATTILHA’s evolution and maturity. “We took a half-tone lower, giving Bibi [vocalist] more room to work on her voice and explore a sound that we didn’t have before. Baboom took over the production with us and guided us from the smallest details so that the song would sound more and more impactful and convey the message we wanted, not only in the lyrics, but also in the instrumental. In addition, it’s the first song that breaks away from our 4/4 standard. It was a challenging process until we understood and respected what that song was asking for”, says guitarist Victor Guilherme.
This is the first work composed by the entire band together. In an increasingly complex and challenging world, MATTILHA’s music addresses the depths of feelings, experiences and life’s ups and downs, as bassist Camilla Rodrigues states: “The lyrics of ‘Tempestade’ have a metaphorical language. We address that moment in life when we have to go through it alone. Only we know the pain we face, the seas we face, the storms… so it’s a moment of decision-making, where you decide to be the captain of your own boat, which is life. It ends up being very liberating to become aware that we can take the reins of our own lives.”
MATTILHA makes the most of good references, knowing how to take advantage of what already exists and adding its own spices, maintaining its unique musicality and a very strong feeling between the members, a true alliance, as vocalist Gabriel Martins says: “I think this is one of the strongest things that has kept Matilha alive for 15 years, a very strong feeling for each other, this true alliance. We have been through thousands, several, with each other, and this trip put us in a very special place where we were able to toast this partnership, this alliance of friendship, above all, which is transformed into music. So the result is phenomenal because we truly love each other. So this is the most magical thing that has kept Mattilha alive for 14 years. We hope you like it, absorb it and feel it each in your own way.”

Created on the gray asphalt of the city of Sao Paulo, the Hard Rock group Mattilha is a true cry of resistance in Brazilian rock. Formed in 2010 in the Pompéia neighborhood, from the very beginning the band has been committed to honoring the musical legacy of the neighborhood that during the 70s was the birthplace of bands such as Mutantes, Made in Brazil and Tutti Frutti.
Under their belt, they have two studio albums, three EPs, several singles, more than 6 million streams on Spotify and more than 250 shows throughout Brazil. The release of the single “Tempestade” marks a new phase for Mattilha, which currently features Gabriel Martins (vocals), Victor Guilherme (guitar), Camilla Rodrigues (bass) and Ian Bueno (drums).
Their first album, ‘Ninguém é Santo’, was released independently in 2014 and opened doors for the band, taking their music to the radio and their music videos to TV. In 2016, the EP ‘A Carne é Fraca’ was released, produced by Marcello Pompeu (Korzus), bringing a heavier and more mature aesthetic to the group. In 2018, the band released its second album ‘Crônicas do Underground’ through its own label, Canil Records. In 2023, the band returned after a brief hiatus during the pandemic, with a new line-up, and released the EP ‘Coração Anárquico’, produced by Henrique Baboom, inaugurating a new era for the band where the technical level of the productions was considerably increased.
Matilha has performed with several big names in Brazilian music, such as Raimundos, Golpe de Estado, Inocentes, Camisa de Vênus, Velhas Virgens, Matanza, among many others, and international bands, such as Lucifer and Pain of Salvation. The band also has relevant collaborations in its discography with Luiz Carlini (Tutti Frutti), Paulão (Velhas Virgens) and even the rap group RZO, showing a versatility and open-mindedness rarely seen in the national rock scene.
