Melba Culp released its debut album A Darkened Rose on September 6th, 2024. The album features previously released singles “Ivory Towers” and “Faces of the Forest”, whose music videos have accumulated more than 550,000 views on YouTube and introduces single/video “Loving You Dead” alongside 5 other new tracks.
Melba Culp is an American goth rock and industrial metal band known for its cinematic and theatrical elements. Formed in Austin, TX in 2015 by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jack McConnell, the band released its debut single “Never Surrender” in 2019. The thrash-inspired tune vowed rebellion against the world’s empires. However, upon defeating the last of the evil empires, the temptation of power proved too much for the band leader.
In June 2024, Jack McConnell of Melba Culp crowned himself king and announced a new vision for the band (or lack thereof, after the execution of his bandmates). With the release of its debut album A Darkened Rose, Melba Culp now seeks to take peasant listeners on a journey to celebrate the dark side of humanity and excellence of the ruling class.
A Darkened Rose uniquely explores the themes of war (“Ivory Towers”), deforestation (“Faces of the Forest”), authoritarianism (“Divine Right of Tyrants”), greed (“Bitter King”), abuse (“Loving You Dead”) and isolation (“In Solitude We Trust”) from the point-of-view of the perpetrator. Listeners and viewers can expect a striking array of dark musical and visual elements from Melba Culp’s latest release.
Melba Culp has shared the stage with renowned artists such as September Mourning, Skull Fist, Sons of Texas, and Starkill, and received a sync placement in Michael Madsen horror film The Wraith Within in 2023.
