Montreal’s Riiver Brukes Honors Scottish Roots with Nostalgic New Single “Heartland”
‘The Heartland’ is a song about Scotland, perhaps more specifically, Edinburgh, my home town. Canada, with all of its natural beauty, often reminds me of Scotland. It was in one of those thoughtful moments whilst looking out over the beautiful lake here in Montreal, I was reminded of home. And so began the creative process of putting those thoughts into words and bringing the music and story together.
“The Heartland” is at times quite melancholic, demonstrating that there are definitely things I miss about home but the upbeat funky chorus and general tempo deliver a catchy change toward more of a happy reminiscing. The song outlines some of the unique characteristics which make Scotland, Scotland: the beautiful outdoors, Edinburgh castle, tartan, pipers, historic buildings and traditions. It’s a sketch in time and a hearty nod to my home town that I haven’t forgotten her – despite being on the other side of the big pond… Riiver Brukes

Riiver Brukes has been making waves her way. Scottish born and currently Canadian, Riiver Brukes is a prime example of natural raw talent. Her unusual gritty and soulful voice brings a powerful edge to some amazing hook laden songs, and is influenced by a broad spectrum of genres and artists, but especially her passion for jazz and blues.
