“A Call Away” is a modern progressive track that masterfully blends emotional depth with sonic sophistication. Written over a decade ago by Dave as a heartfelt tribute to his then-girlfriend, the song almost didn’t make it to the band’s upcoming album “After Us, the Flood”. The lyrics, marked by a youthful innocence, may lack the polish of other tracks, but they resonate with a genuine emotion that’s hard to ignore. Recognizing the strength of its catchy hook, Abhi infused the song with a contemporary edge, incorporating an instrumental breakdown that adds both complexity and freshness.
The song is a journey of contrasts, weaving in acoustic guitar sections that flow seamlessly into moments of intensity and introspection. The highlight is an emotionally charged guitar solo by Aatrey Bhatt, a talented guitarist and producer from Ahmedabad, whose improvisation in the studio perfectly complements Abhi’s synth lines. Explosive and Unapologetic, Mr. GnG is changing the boundaries of progressive rock with its unparalleled balance between electronica and hard-hitting riffs. Formed in June of 2021, by Ishan Dave and Abhilash Sreekumar, the band rose from the ashes of its previous project, Realm of Shadows, during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Mr GnG started as a duo doing spontaneous online sessions that developed into a full-scale collaboration leading to the release of the band’s first EP titled ‘EPonymous’ by December 2022.
Although heavily influenced by classic heavy metal and progressive acts, it also takes inspiration from contemporary prog titans. The band’s lyrics touch on love, bereavement, and existential anguish all delivered in a manner so intense that appeals to fans across continents. Mr GnG’s unique aesthetic is captured in its striking visuals which range from cyberpunk animations to minimalistic performance art through the notorious graphic designer Sohail Khan, AKA The Nautilus Shell.
Mr. GnG’s music video for ‘Room 103’ made a splash at several award ceremonies like The Ayodhya Film Festival, The British International Film Festival, and The Mumbai International Shorts Film Festival. The band’s forthcoming album “After Us, the Flood” set to be released on October 2024 will be even more daring than ever before. With collaborative works like LA-based musician/YouTuber Rudy Ayoub for its lead single Paralyse, Mr. GnG is setting the stage to leave an indelible mark on the global prog scene.
