New-Wave-Disco-Punk band Bugeye release new single ‘Dancing Out In The Dark’ on 24th November – their first release of 2023. With dirty guitars, disco beats, sizzling synths and exploding bass riffs – Bugeye are your new favourite band.

Written about the nostalgia of sneaking out at night as a teenager to meet friends – ‘Dancing Out In The Dark’ unlocks a teenage spirit and transports us back to a simpler timewhen you’re on the edge of major changes in your life. Capturing the energy of 90s bands such as The Subways, Ash, Elastica and Blur, the track showcases each of the member’s knack for rhythms and melodies with Bugeye’s signature disco beats and bass hooks. With ‘Dancing Out In The Dark’ already achieving early plays on BBC Introducing and Radio X, Bugeye are gearing up for a very exhilarating 2024, with a series of releases and live shows already in the woodwork.

Bugeye’s front woman and lead guitarist Angela Martin said of the track “Myself, Lisa and Paula wrote this song together at Storm studios in North London. The song came together quite quickly with bouncing ideas of each other to construct each section of the song – we played around with stripping the song back to its bare bones and building each section from there. We then took the song to producer Paul Tipler to record over a couple of days.”

Imagined in 2018, Bugeye are a queer alternative rock band hailing from the concrete shores of Croydon. With lyrics touching on subjects from the mundanity of modern city life, to global issues such as racism and climate change, their tunes come wrapped in a riotous optimism that demands you to dance. Bugeye have one foot in pop’s past and another kicking down the door into the future of female led indie music – think 70s dance floor meets post-punk meets noughties optimism.

Angela Martin formed the band with school friend and bass player Paula Snow and recently joined forces with drummer Lisa Lux (drummer for Brix Smith and with past credits that include Hepburn and Girls Aloud) to devise the next chapter of Bugeye.

With sold out shows across the UK and an impressive string of support slots, the band has played stages such as Camden’s Koko, Norwich Epic Studios, Brighton’s Concorde 2, to name but a few, as well as festival slots at Isle of Wight Festival, Smithdown Road and Pride.

The single ‘Dancing Out In The Dark’ was out on 24th November 2023. A music video accompanying the single will be released on 1st December.
