Formed in Paris in 2002, Inborn Suffering quickly established themselves as one of their country’s premier exponents of majestic, melodic doom death. They released two exceptional albums in the form of 2006s Wordless Hope and 2010s Regressionto Nothingness, played numerous high profile shows alongside the likes of Swallow The Sun, Saturnus and Mourning Beloveth…and then slowly slipped away into years of silence. But now, in 2024, the band have returned, signing a new deal with the esteemed Ardua Music and preparing to release the album of their career in the incredible Pale Grey Monochrome!
Pale Grey Monochrome features all the trademarks of Inborn Suffering’s music – the crushing weight and towering majesty, the piercing emotion and beautiful guitar melodies, the aching vocal lines and sombre gravitas – but Inborn Suffering have returned not to match their past endeavours, but to surpass them. They have ventured further than ever before into the depths of despair and human suffering, they have poured every drop of their own sorrows into the sublime, melancholic melodies that unwind around the staggering riffs…in songs like ‘Tales From An Empty Shell’ and ‘Drawing Circles’ they have crafted doom death laments of breathtaking magnificence. They share insurmountable grief in ‘From Lowering Tides’, offer faint hope with ‘Of Loss And Despair’ and then crush it with the darkness of ‘The Oak’ and it’s undercurrents of fear and whispers of danger. Every moment of Pale Grey Monochrome carries a weight of meaning and emotion and it is stunning in its power and potency.
Ardua Music will unveil Pale Grey Monochrome’s procession of desolation on February 7th, complete with the arresting artwork of Franck Besançon (Maveth, Solemn Lament, Silent Hill: Townfall etc) and the intuitive mixing and mastering of Déhà of Opus Magnum Studio (Abduction, Deadspace, Wolvennest etc). An honour guard for this superlative release will be provided by Inborn Suffering’s two revered early albums, Wordless Hope and Regression To Nothingness, which Ardua Music will also reissue In February, creating a perfect triptych of tragedy.
While you await the coming of Pale Grey Monochrome immerse yourself in a new visual interpretation of ‘The Oak’ which is available at the Ardua Music Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OtpPJ0GWrU
Speaking about ‘The Oak’ the band have said, “‘The Oak’ is a poetic journey through despair and rebirth, the text explores forgotten truths and the collapse of illusions. Themes of divine absence, decay, and rage intertwine with imagery of ashes, sorrow, and renewal. Amid hollow emptiness and shattered identities, it envisions revival and rage-fueled transcendence.”
