PROG ROCK SUPERGROUP MIGLIORI AMICI & CO RELEASES ‘(BEST OF FRIENDS)’ EP
GROUP PREMIERES “SICK SHIT” VIDEO ON CHILDREN OF THE WORLD BENEFIT LIVE STREAMED CONCERT
New York City’s newest prog rock sensation, MIGLIORI AMICI & CO. release their debut Ep, (best of friends) today via Vanity Music Group. An exciting six song effort that showcases the preeminent level of talent that makes up MIGLIORI AMICI & CO, (best of friends) is much more than a showcase of how well the individual members can play their respective instruments, it’s a well constructed, song oriented piece of work that crosses over from progressive rock into the melodic rock realm.
MIGLIORI AMICI & CO. came to life at the beginning of Covid amidst the unsettling feeling guitarist Ray DeTone had about the immediate future. He put a call in to friend and former Jefferson Starship drummer, Michael Sciotto with the idea of tracking and co-producing an instrumental prog rock Ep. “We were all stuck at home, a situation we had never really been put in before.” recalls DeTone. “We decided to create a piece of art rather than just sit around bored.” Next, the duo starting reaching out to friends, including the likes of Mark Clarke (Colosseum, Billy Squier), Nicky Moroch (Elton John, David Bowie), Adam Holzman (Miles Davis, Steve Wilson), Alex Salzman (Ace Frehley), the late David J Keyes (Renaissance, Willy DeVille), Dave Trupia (Marty Balin), and Ralph Merigliano (Ross The Boss). The result is an unparalleled tour de force of melodic prog rock.
The Ep’s opening track, “Sick Shit” sees MIGLORI AMICI & CO move all over the progressive spectrum at once as they enter symphonic territory and progressive metal as well as traditional progressive patches throughout the song, while “Sun” in complete contrast is light, airy and laid back. “Arctic Drift” takes you on a voyage as DeTone’s melodic playing – and Sciotto’s slick groove and fluid performance makes odd time signatures seem standard – effortlessly pulls the listener in then “Shattered Glass” sees the entire band seemingly fight each other for attention and in doing so the listener is forced to follow closely, mentally separating each instrument. The two cover songs on (best of friends),the Davey Arthur and the Fureys classic from 1977, “Glasgow Reel” – also known as “Tam Linn” – albeit kicked into overdrive, led by DeTone’s blinding but melodic guitar work and Jason Becker’s “Images” in which they pay tribute to the guitar hero whose performing career was cut short in 1989 when he was diagnosed with ALS, both showcase the diversity MIGLIORI AMICI & CO. were out to present on (best of friends).
Distributed by The Orchard / Sony Music, (best of friends) can be found in local record shops as well as on Amazon and Apple Music as well as streamed on Spotify..
