Fuzz and buzz take over as psychedelic outfits AAWKS and AIWASS join forces on new split, The Eastern Scrolls, due out August 25th via Black Throne Productions. A concept album that explores the life and legend of Russian mystic Madame Helena Blavatsky. A woman who enjoyed a diverse career as a circus horse rider, a professional pianist, a business woman, and a spiritualist, Madame Helena Blavatsky is best known as one of the founders of Theosophy, a spiritual movement based in the ancient tradition of occultism, and the esoteric doctrines of Hermeticism and Neoplatonism. The Eastern Scrolls is available for pre-order HERE.
“We’re excited to be able to share our song “1831” with you,” the band shares. “This is definitely one of the most ambitious and heavy songs we’ve written to date. Our bassist/guitarist Roberto Paraíso added some super cool, atmospheric violins to the track and we were stoked to be able to collaborate with the amazing COLONIZER on this track. COLONIZER added some killer, ethereal elements to the track alongside his monstrous vocals in the verse.”
“We are honored to be able to present The Eastern Scrolls to you with the our good friends in AIWASS,” AAWKS elaborates on the album. “There have been many mysterious and odd synchronistic and coincidental events related to Madame Helena Blavatsky and AAWKS and we believe that there may even be a possibility that she’s channeling her otherworldly self into the sounds of this release.”
“We hope that you enjoy what we’ve collectively put forth and, if you’re so inclined, to do some reading about this mysterious, interesting and controversial woman and all of the truly spectacular things she did or may have done.”
“This project has been an experience I didn’t see hitting me the way it has.” further adds AAWKS’ Randy Babic. “Delving into her life and works, hearing naysayers and followers gave me energy and enthusiasm.”
“Thinking about what she did in her time and what she introduced to the world was an overwhelming feeling of wonder and pride for women. She resisted the norm, fought for her beliefs and mystically took on everything in front of her. Near death experiences, haters and husbands couldn’t tie her down from her true calling. Blessed to have had the challenge to create something in honor of her life.”
“Madame Blavatsky was in search of a universal religion – we’re in search of a universal sound that reflects her beliefs,” concludes AIWASS. “These songs were inspired not just by what Blavatsky said, but what she might well have done. I’m beyond thrilled to be a part of this and go through the journey of listenership with my compatriots in AAWKS and our listeners.”
Close your eyes and let the fuzz take over! Barrie, Ontario rockers AAWKS is the product of three acid casualties united by a love for high fantasy, psychedelics and heavy rock music, alongside some guest musicians who wander in to add their own flair. Forming in 2019, AAWKS quickly put out an EP and settled into their current line-up in 2020.
AAWKS, composed of the founding members Kris Dzierzbicki (guitar/vocals), Roberto Paraíso (bass) and Randylin Babic (drums) spent 2020 writing the songs that would become their debut full-length, (((((Heavy on the Cosmic))))). Musically, members draw influence from the likes of BLACK SABBATH, MONOLORD, MELVINS, PINK FLOYD, WINDHAND, JEFF THE BROTHERHOOD, FU MANCHU and ELECTRIC WIZARD—artists who place as much emphasis on melody as heavy riff-craft. This latest collection of songs showcases an evolved form of the band, one whose collective decades of experience meets the members’ desire to create.
AIWASS is a one-man psychedelic doom band based in Texas. Founded by Blake Carrera in the haze of an Aleister Crowley reading binge in 2020, the band has since opened for such luminaries as MONOLORD, FIREBREATHER, ELDER, RUBY THE HATCHET, DREADNOUGHT, and HIPPIE DEATH CULT. In addition, in July of 2022, AIWASS and TWIN WIZARD toured across the Midwest on the Glacial Titans Tour. Featuring hazy vocals, psychedelic distorted guitars, and bombastic rhythms, AIWASS is tailor made for fans of MONOLORD, ELECTRIC WIZARD, BLACK SABBATH, NEUROSIS, YOB, and many others in the psychedelic, stoner, and doom genres. As of May 2023, AIWASS has welcomed Pablo Anton of DEMONS MY FRIENDS as co-writer and lead guitarist.
In April of 2021, AIWASS released their first EP, His Name Was Aiwass. Built on the back of three singles, the EP was quickly championed by the YouTube channels of scene tastemakers Rob Hammer and 666MrDoom. Later that year, on November 5th, AIWASS released their first album, Wayward Gods. Featured by such luminous publications as Doomed and Stoned, Monster Riff, The Obelisk, and Doom Charts November 2021, the album has seen massive success behind its critical praise and demonstrates that AIWASS is a voice to be reckoned with in the burgeoning doom metal scene.
