SCALPTURE unleash video single ‘Den Mörka Nattens Lejon‘
& details of forthcoming new album “Landkrieg“
SCALPTURE unleash ‘Den Mörka Nattens Lejon‘ (Swedish for “The Dark Night’s Lion”) as the first single taken from their new full-length “Landkrieg” (“Land Warfare”) in the shape of a video clip. The fourth album of the German death metal dogs of war has been scheduled for release on March 7, 2025.
SCALPTURE comment: “The title of the song ‘Den Mörka Nattens Lejon’ refers to King Gustav II Adolph of Sweden, a famous champion of the Protestant cause in the 30 Year War of the German states”, guitarist Tobias Aselmann explains. “The track takes off with relentless speed and energy, launching into a melodic yet blackened chorus before repeatedly kicking you in the face towards the end – leaving you defenseless on the ground. If you ask us, after hearing the song, whether we like Morbid Angel, the answer is obviously: yes!”

Here comes the German death metal tank again, crushing and smashing, bulldozing all resistance into oblivion and breaking through the lines. SCALPTURE deliver their fourth album “Landkrieg”, which means ‘land warfare’ in German, with deadly precision and an ambitious mission statement: to conquer the world.
Well, the band from Westphalia just wants their music to conquer. All members of SCALPTURE personally abhor violence and detest the warmongers of this planet. Still, war has been and is all they want to sing about. This time, it is not just one of the usual war topics but each song on “Landkrieg” revolves around the 30 Year War that devastated the German lands from 1618 until 1648 – after the Habsburg emperor pushed his lands ‘Into Catastrophe’ by trying to force all his subjects to become Catholic again in the long wake of the reformation.
Violence soon spiralled out of control as warlords like ‘Wallenstein’ made a profitable business out of this war. Their soldiers, at the time called a ‘Landsknecht’, committed many brutal atrocities including rape and mass murder of civilians. The war soon became international business with both sides of the religious schism supporting their champions. For the besieged Protestants, the Lion of the North, King Gustav II Adolph of Sweden (‘Den Mörka Nattens Lejon’) came to the rescue, but his methods were no less brutal. Until today, animal slurry carries the German moniker ‘Schwedentrunk’ (“Swedish Drink”) after a vile torture method employed by the king’s and other troops.
On “Landkrieg”, SCALPTURE stay true to their deadly roots but their sound has been refined by endless hours on the road, playing more shows, and many days and nights well spent in the rehearsing space and at Hellforge Studio. The new songs are brutal, hard-hitting, and 100% death metal but leave room for variety and cool twists.
When SCALPTURE came into being in the German city of Bielefeld in 2009, founding guitarist Felix Marbach already had a clear vision: The musical direction was to be death metal without any compromise regarding its roots and values, but at the same time the band aimed to evolve into a singular musical entity with a unique style very much their own right from the start.
With the release of their debut album “Panzerdoktrin” (‘Doctrine of Tanks’) in 2016 it became apparent that SCALPTURE had succeeded to reach a first milestone in their quest by adding different facets of heaviness to their death metal foundations that reflect the wide range of the band members’ musical influences. With each new album that followed, “Eisenzeit” (‘Iron Age’, 2020) and “Feldwärts” (“To the Fields”, 2022), SCALPTURE expanded their stylistic horizon, while also defining and focusing a sound of their own.
It is hardly surprising that all of SCALPTURE‘s album titles refer to the topic of ‘war’ that the band has decided to adopt as their prime lyrical theme. Staying away from glorifying stereotypes, their texts are built on detailed historical research and portray the horrors that the abyss of war has caused in some of the darkest hours of humankind. Although the Germans have chosen war as their main subject, SCALPTURE embrace modern values such as tolerance, peace, and reason.
SCALPTURE unleash a new “Landkrieg” and that leaves the world with only two choices: run for cover or bang that death metal head hard!
