Soundgarden legend Chris Cornell has ventured back into the world of film. Cornell’s musical touch will be heard in the new Christian Bale movie The Promise, which centers around a love triangle set against the Armenian genocide. Chris Cornell is no stranger to film. The alt-rock icon penned the theme to 2006’s Casino Royale, the first movie to feature Daniel Craig in the role of James Bond. Chris has also contributed songs or titles themes for silver screen creations like Great Expectations, Machine Gun Preacher and 12 Years A Slave.
An official synopsis for The Promise reads, “Set during the last days of the Ottoman Empire, The Promise follows a love triangle between Michael, a brilliant medical student, the beautiful and sophisticated Ana, and Chris – a renowned American journalist based in Paris.” Cornell spoke about the tribulations of composing original music for film during The Promise’s premiere. “I’ve done enough of them now. I know there’s going to be difficult moments and there will be some moments where everything seems to come together,” Cornell said. “And then I realize ‘That was awful,’ and I’ll start over from scratch. You know the problem I run into the most is, ‘Am I the right guy for this? Is there a different guy who could tell this story better? And then I get the determination.”Chris Cornell will front Temple of the Dog for the act’s first ever U.S. tour. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the band’s debut album, the group will play a handful of shows this November.
