Hailed as “pioneers of a new form of expression” through the performance of poetry in music, The Chronicles of Manimal and Samara (TCOMAS), are a UK-based duo comprising Daphne Ang (Singapore) and Andrea Papi (Italy) who came together in London in early 2020. Their debut album Full Spectrum, released on 21 February 2021, fills a gap in music by bringing literature, theater, and history, fusing rock and metal, with poetry performance.

Speaking of the inspiration and meaning behind their new track, “Shaman’, The Chronicles of Manimal and Samara share:

Shaman’ tells a tale of a symbolic journey into one’s psyche. The song narrates a personal confrontation with the unconscious through mythopoetic imagination. Resolved to open herself to the strange impulses surging up from the depths of her unconscious mind, she entrusts herself to the guidance of a transcendent spiritual intelligence who leads her on a voyage of discovery “through the ocean of infinite worlds”, “to the end of the world”.

It is a story that represents man’s quest for human fulfilment. It talks about the possibility of encountering our inner worlds by willingly surrendering to one’s psyche in order to come face to face with one’s unconscious. This experience is akin to the Native American Sweat Lodge Ceremony, inipi or inikagapi, whereby participants pass through four doors to cleanse and prepare themselves for Vision Quests, Hanbleceya, which are journeys into the spiritual world.

Guided by Jungian psychoanalytic theory, ‘Shaman’ introduces the idea that the first step in the journey to human fulfilment and individuation is to first acknowledge and engage with the inner worlds within us by initiating face to face encounters with our unconscious.”

The new single is from the duo’s forthcoming sophomore album, Trust No Leaders, which will release worldwide on all major streaming services, as well on CD, on July 1 this year.
