Aug. 14, 2024 – the Jesus Lizard’s new album, Rack – their first in 26 years – arrives Friday the 13th of September via Ipecac Recordings, and with just weeks to go until its highly-anticipated release, the band has unveiled one last tease with today’s debut of the song “Moto(R).”

Duane Denison says of the track, which comes with a Jon Tucker-directed video (https://youtu.be/orke3jgFAcA) that features recent live footage of the foursome: “It’s not Motörhead, and it’s not Radiohead either…”

The band has previously unveiled two singles from the 11-track album: “Hide & Seek,” which was described by Yow as “a perky ditty about a witch who can’t behave, and it’s got nearly as many hooks as a Mike Tyson fight,” and “Alexis Feels Sick,” a song inspired by Girls Against Boys/Soulside drummer Alexis Fleisig’s guarded opinion of modern life.

The New York Times described the new album as “a raucous record that recaptures the lunging momentum, stealth nuance and unhinged Yow-isms of their best work,” Consequence dubbed it “a rapturous return for the band,” and Brooklyn Vegan said the band is “as delightfully gnarly as they have ever been.”

the Jesus Lizard reconvened in 2009 for a limited number of shows and have maintained their bond both as friends in close contact with one another, and touring bandmates. “We literally only made the record because we thought it would be fun to make the record,” says Sims. With McNeilly highlighting the strong relationship amongst the musicians: “We are bonded by the music we make, and also by the respect we have for each other.”

Rack pre-orders, which include several limited-edition vinyl variants, as well as CD, digital, and cassette offerings, are available now: https://tjl.lnk.to/rack.

Since their inception in Austin in 1987, the Jesus Lizard has thrilled audiences all over the planet. The impeccable rocket-thrust rhythm section of bassist David Wm. Sims and drummer Mac McNeilly was the perfect launchpad for guitarist Duane Denison’s jagged yet clean-toned riffing and vocalist David Yow’s mercurial vocalizations manifesting as everything from panicked citizen, reality escapee or wounded sea mammal. The Jesus Lizard’s fury has carried on through six studio albums, two live recordings and a brace of singles and EPs, with the band’s seventh album, Rack, out this Fall via Ipecac Recordings.
