Calgary’s hardest band TRENCH   Jay Breen (vocals); Tony Chan (bass); Cole Young (guitar/electronics); and Tommy Chan (drums) — are stoked to announce their new album BETWEEN INVERTED WORLDS. It arrives August 16 via New Damage Records. Pre-order it here.

The album boasts some killer features, including fellow Canadian band City and Colour, as well as hardcore heroes Comeback Kid and European noisemakers Cult of Luna and fellow Canadians Wake. See the complete track listing below.

Today, Trench shared the video for new single “DUST TO BONE” (Featuring City and Colour).

“I’ve learned that the only way to grow artistically is to learn from mistakes and fully embrace making them,” says Breen. “‘DUST TO BONE’ is about picking up the pieces of past mistakes and reforming them into something positive. We had the idea of having Dallas Green’s voice on a heavy song, so we set out to create something he would actually find interesting enough to be a part of. The song captivates all aspects of Trench — from emotional and beautiful parts to a crushing breakdown, this song has it all.”

The song is moody yet majestically metallic and dynamic. It grabs you by the scruff and won’t let go til the last note fades out. And Green’s voice adds an unexpectedly gorgeous softness to an otherwise pummeling song and this element demonstrates just how brutal the song is!

The band previously shared the video for “DIVIDED BETWEEN NEW SKIN.” Watch it here. It was actually three singles in one: “DIVIDED EXISTENCE,” “BETWEEN INVERTED WORLDS,” and “NEW SKIN PROTOCOL.”

ABOUT TRENCH:
In a world where conformity reigns supreme, Trench stand defiant and unapologetic, daring to carve their own path through the music scene. With their unforgettably distinct and refreshing approach to metal music, they’ve crafted a sound that’s as bold as it is brooding, refusing to adhere to anyone’s expectations but their own. Their journey began in 2017, instantly marking Trench as a force to be reckoned with. After exploring their sound in the early days, they weren’t content to rest on their laurels, revealing the boundaries they were willing to push with the release of The Gift of Guilt in 2019, diving deep into synthetic post-metal landscapes while confronting the harsh realities of life and loss head-on.

Along the way, Trench’s ferocious live performances and unyielding determination caught worldwide attention, earning them spots on stages alongside heavyweights like Misery Signals, Comeback Kid, Integrity, and Harm’s Way. Their rapid evolution didn’t go unnoticed either; the impact of their debut LP Blossom in 2020 (with Jesse Zaraska of Misery Signals accompanying them on “Hellbent Gate”) led to their inevitable record deal with New Damage Records. Their fourth official release in 2022, Encased in Chrome, propelled Trench to new heights, sharing the stage with modern-day legends Knocked Loose. It was also featured on Cult of Luna’s Top 10 List in 2023. Shortly after, Trench was invited to play overseas at Beyond The Redshift Festival in London, alongside iconic death metal band Napalm Death.

After a brief hibernation, Trench emerge with their new album, BETWEEN INVERTED WORLDS. Guitarist Cole Young shares, “We’ve become closer as a unit. The songs you hear on our new album are a direct result of us locking ourselves in the studio, processing our thoughts, and meticulously translating them into song.” Completing their first full-length record for New Damage Records, now as a four-piece band, the album is a grand display of epic ballads, the signature groove-landen electronic nu-metal Trench is best known for, and delivers an assault of back-to-back merciless tracks to sink your teeth into. According to Cole, the album was “…created as if it was a movie. Everything was intentional, from the track placement to the interludes to the album layout and artwork.”Trench states, “Writing this album was a natural progression for Trench. It sounds more refined than previous works, but still uses the same building blocks to create our brand of unique heavy music.” The album touches on raw themes of reinventing oneself through unfamiliar surroundings and seeks to help those who carry anxious thoughts about the future cultivate a realistic sense of hope. With features from Johannes of Cult of Luna on “MY COLD BLOOD,” Andrew Neufeld of Comeback Kid on “PATH OF PAIN,” Kyle Ball of WAKE on “CHROME SACRAMENT,” and Dallas Green and Matt Kelly from City and Colour on “DUST TO BONE,” Trench present their most focused, diverse, and mature body of work to date. BETWEEN INVERTED WORLDS positions itself between the darkness and the light, skillfully holding both worlds in tension for all to see.
