Since 2015, OVERDRIVERS has been tearing through the Northern Lands like a runaway freight train. Born from nowhere and fueled by pure rock rebellion, these four hard-hitting rockers bring the kind of thunder only cranked-up Marshall amps can deliver. With their amps on blast, they claimed every stage in their path, quickly earning a reputation for leaving chaos – and converted fans – behind them

I always have to smile about the exuberant words used to praise bands or promote themselves. But let’s get back to the facts. Overdrivers come from France and have toured up and down their home country. Two albums and one EP have been released so far. And the third album ‘Glory Or Nothing’ will be released in March.

But as early as ‘Kings Of The Road’ you can hear that the words in the above quote are hardly an exaggeration. Overdrivers sound very much like bands from down under. The headline on their Facebook page ‘The Frenchiest Of Australian Rock Bands’ also fits 😉 But in my opinion far less monotonous than AC/DC. The band titled song ‘Overdrivers’ shows this quite clearly. Less high speed but more rhythm. The chorus of the background vocals is very fitting. Of course, there are also some very good guitar solos. The title track ‘Glory Or Nothing’ literally stomps out of the speakers. Singer Adrien Desquirez presents his vocals at a higher pitch. And is once again supported by perfectly placed choruses. The riff- and drum-driven ‘My Girlfriend Is A Pornstar’ is also the finest Rock’n’Roll in the footsteps of AC/DC or Rose Tattoo. With very good interplay between the two guitarists. The rhythmic, powerful drums are joined by a deep, pumping bass line in the intro to ‘Cobra Kai’. The rhythm guitars come in later. A song with a moderate tempo. What else would you expect from a title like ‘Guitar Playboy’? Heavy guitar hooks. And, of course, guitar solos. Things really get going with ‘Bad Breath Girl’. Need I mention again that AC/DC influences can be heard here? A guitar intro opens ‘Meet The Monsters’. It is accompanied by hard riffs and accentuated drumming. The melody of the intro can also be heard again and again throughout the song. Typical AC/DC riffs can also be heard at the beginning of ‘Ready For The Rodeo’. The higher-pitched vocals also fit in with this. Once again supported by choruses. ‘We Are One’ is again of the faster variety. The guitars gallop, driven by the drums. And the overall concept doesn’t change in the last two songs either. Why should it? So ‘Perfection Is My Name’ is one of the fast and riff-driven songs. And finally, ‘In Fear, Blood And Fire’ is in the rhythmic mid-tempo range.

OVERDRIVERS is coming—louder, fiercer, and more unstoppable than ever!

I can also fully confirm this quote. On ‘Glory Or Nothing’ you can clearly recognise the role models again and again, the mighty AC/DC and the less mighty Rose Tattoo. But Overdrivers don’t just copy their idols. No, they bring their own flavour into the sound. As a result, the songs are varied. And musically they are on a high level. Should there be a rival to the established bands? I think so.
