Brazilian Rising Progressive Metal act Pravus has unveiled their brand-new single, “When The Autumn Comes,” marking a bold step in the band’s evolution. The release follows their well-received previous single “Ignis”—which surpassed 1,000 streams in its first week—and serves as a preview of the group’s anticipated debut full-length album, scheduled for late 2025.

Formed during the pandemic in 2020 by a group of young musicians from São Paulo—then aged between 17 and 20—Pravus quickly distinguished themselves with their intricate songwriting and fearless exploration of emotional depth. Their debut EP, “Cor Hominis Pravum” (2023), already hinted at the band’s ambition, notably featuring a daring reinterpretation of King Crimson’s legendary track “Starless.”

Now entering a new creative phase, Pravus embraces existential and introspective themes, layering dense instrumentation with captivating melodies. Their sound draws inspiration from acts such as Opeth, Gojira, Mastodon, VOLA, Leprous, and Porcupine Tree, blending modern progressive metal with experimental textures while never losing sight of raw emotional impact.

Described by the band as an “experimental metal piece”, “When The Autumn Comes” stands in stark contrast to its predecessor “Ignis.” While “Ignis” captured punishment and conviction, the new single delves into vulnerability and uncertainty. Lyrically, it reflects on the end of a long-term relationship and the tension between clinging to the familiar—even when dysfunctional—or surrendering to the unknown that follows. Musically, it unfolds in atmospheric, ethereal soundscapes that expand Pravus’ sonic palette while retaining their characteristic weight.

Unlike many metal bands that rely heavily on aggression and nihilism, Pravus consciously challenges lyrical conventions. Their songwriting navigates themes such as regret, longing, and guilt—painting a sincere portrait of identity crises and the eternal search for inner peace.

With their debut album in the works, Pravus is also preparing for a much-anticipated return to the stage on September 26 at Burning House in São Paulo, which will be their first live performance with the band’s new lineup—marking the beginning of a significant new chapter.
