Once upon a time, in a different era. Not even two years ago, I was able to see the Indian Metal band Against Evil live. As support Bullet at the Bambi galore in Hamburg. And the quartet could inspire me immediately with their mixture of classic Heavy Metal, Power and Speed Metal. The band has been playing in an unchanged line-up ever since. Also impressive. The second album “End Of The Line” will be released in May. A label has been found for distribution in Europe. For the rest of the world, distribution is still being done on their own.
Already on “The Sound Of Violence”, the quartet from India presents its trademarks in a convincing way. Excellent guitar playing – no matter if riffs or hook lines – and impressive vocals. And immediately the first guitar solo is fired out. Several more follow later. A Power Metal start at its best. As you might expect from the title “Speed Demon”, we hear high-speed Metal here. Despite all the speed, it’s still melodic. As guest for “Out For Blood” the band presents none other than Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big). A driving song with a good bass line. The chorus is great for singing along. The metal hymn “Call To War” is dominated by the heavy riffs. But also, here you can sing along well. On the other hand, the title track “End Of The Line” tends more towards Melodic Speed Thrash. The vocals are a bit rougher, the guitars roar. Against Evil also really step on the gas with “Sword Of Power”. Fast heavy riffs and pushing double bass. “Metal Or Nothin'” is completely different. A great hymn with Manowar memory riffs. However, produced in a modern way with much less bombast. The title describes exactly what you hear here. The official closing song, “Fearless”, is again straightforward Speed Metal. As a bonus track, “War Hero” from the 2015 EP “Fatal Assault” was re-recorded. A very epic ending.
A great album that would have deserved a longer playing time. But even the predecessor “All Hail The King” was not longer. Against Evil celebrate heavy metal on a high level. Richly produced and with varied songwriting, a broad spectrum of the genre is represented. “End Of The Line” should not be missing in any Heavy Metal record collection.
