AOR
Bewitched In L.A.
Label: Perris Records
Out: September 8th, 2023
Playing time: 44:00

Guitarist and keyboardist Frédéric Slama started his AOR project in 2000, joined by guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Tommy Denander in the early 2000s. Singer Paul Sabu completed the band. Now the album “Bewitched In L.A.” has been released.

Where it says AOR on it, there should be AOR in it. This is already proven by the opener “Behind Closed Doors”. Pleasant music in the midtempo range. “Dangerously Smart” doesn’t sound much different. “You Don’t Have To Tell Me Lies” is also just a variation on the previous musical themes. This continues whether on “Stolen Future”, “Manifestation Of Human Desires”, “Frozen Soul”…. I don’t want to list all the songs here. Only the final song “Never Give Up On Love” offers a bit more variety. A beautiful ballad.

The album “Bewitched In L.A.” promises more than it ultimately delivers. It’s a pity, actually, because each song listened to individually is actually quite good. However, all songs are very similar, too predictable. A little more variability would be desirable. Thus, AOR have unfortunately missed the goal of the class. Maybe after twenty-two studio albums in twenty-three years the band has worn itself out a bit. At least, if this number is correct. However, it doesn’t bewitch me at least.
