Double Horse
Diablerie
Out: April 26th, 2024
Spieldauer: 37:50

Double Horse are a Doom Metal band from Valencia (Spain). Founded in 2016, there haven’t been too many releases to date. After a demo (2017) and the single ‘All of Them’ (2018), the debut album ‘The Great Old Ones’ was released in 2019. After that it was relatively quiet. Only two more singles came out. Until the second album ‘Diablerie’ was released in April 2024.

You can first hear synth sound gimmicks in ‘The Last House On The Left’ before low-tuned and heavily distorted guitars dominate the sound. A wah-wah effect can be heard again and again. In contrast, the vocals sound relatively clear. And some spoken words are interspersed. A Hammond wobbles along. The listener doesn’t have to do without a guitar solo either. ‘Blind Dead’ starts with a drum intro. The guitars sound even more distorted. The Spaniards obviously like to work with spoken words. Even with a female voice. Nothing changes in the calm, moody sound. Another guitar solo can be heard. The tempo picks up on ‘Castle Crypt’. Only the low, distorted guitars remain typical of Doom. The deep bass is also distorted. The Hammond can be heard again at times. ‘Lady Bathory’ is also somewhat faster. By Doom standards, the riffs do have a driving effect. But not all the time. Keyrboards and the cymbals of the drums introduce ‘Rotting Corpses’, as well as some synth sounds. But soon there are harsh, heavy riffs to be heard here too. Spoken word? Nothing new. Also on the closing ‘Lucifer’s Child’. This is another one of the slightly faster songs. In addition to the riffs, the drums also create a gloomy mood.

Double Horse bring back the Doom of the seventies. As Black Sabbath, among others, masterfully celebrated it in the early days. The songs are characterised by hammered riffs, low-tuned and distorted guitars, powerful drums and the occasional Hammond. In addition, there are always strong guitar solos. Whether the many spoken word interludes are necessary is up to the listener to decide.
