Frenzy come from the Spanish capital Madrid. Since 2014, the comic fans have been bringing their version of Heavy Metal to the world. Founded after a band called Steel Horse broke up. Two of the former members (Anthony Stephen, Angel Muñoz) were looking for new challenges. In 2016, the first EP “Lethal Protector” was released, followed by the debut album “Blind Justice” in 2019. After a successful tour, the work on the new album “Of Hoods And Masks” began. However, production and release were delayed due to the COVID pandemic. So it took four years, until April 2023.
The intro “One Minute Closer To…” is a little longer than one minute. At least there are not just any sound gimmicks to be heard here, but a heart-touching guitar melody. That sets it apart from many other intros. But already “The Doomsday” is really hard. Finest Heavy Metal in the style of the 80s. With everything that belongs to it. Riffs, great guitar solos and a singer who revives the times of NWOBHM. And why change that in the following. So “Where Is The Joke” also rocks lively away. “Spectre Of Love” is then much quieter, a convincing power ballad. Halfway through the song, however, the balladic field is left behind. Great vocal performance by Anthony Stephen. “Uncompromised” then offers Speed Metal. The guitars gallop and the singer gallops along. The rocking continues with “Betrayal In Cold Blood”. With “Fear The Hood” you can hear a bluesy touch. Shortly before the end, the Spaniards included the Rick Springfield cover “Living In Oz”, from the ’83 album of the same name. Damn close to the original, with a slight point victory for the cover version. But that’s a matter of taste. The final song is “Give Me Shred (Or Give Me Death)”, a real Metal firecracker.
Headbang alarm from the first regular song to the end. Great musicians, very good song writing and an excellent singer. Two guitarists who complement each other in their twin-guitar runs and spur each other on to top performances. Metalhead, what more do you want.
