Location: Marias Ballroom Hamburg-Harburg
Date: January 4th, 2025
Frollein Motte had actually planned to play in their second ‘living room’ on 16 November last year. But the singer das Frollein was ill. But postponed is not cancelled. So, the concert was postponed to 4 January, making it the final show of the Tabularasa Tour 2024. The concert was sold out in November. Now the Marias Ballroom was not completely filled. Some were ill, others couldn’t make the date for other reasons. You can see all the pictures of the evening on Flickr. The newly found support band Denser from Hamburg started at 9.00 pm. The band was apparently founded in early 2019 (first entry on Facebook in April). Their self-titled debut album was released in April 2024 and was played in its entirety that evening. One new song (‘Weitergehen’) was also presented. This is expected to be released in February. ‘We play Rock’n’Roll’ was the announcement from Denser. And yes, that’s how it is. Melodic Rock with German lyrics. A successful opener and warm-up for the main act of the evening. The fans vehemently demanded an encore. Denser hadn’t planned it, but they played it – ‘Schau mich nicht so an’ a second time

I have to admit, the last performance I saw by Frollein Motte wasn’t really my cup of tea. During the corona period, I watched a live stream from the Marias Ballroom. Frollein Motte were almost the ‘old’ ones again. So, I was curious to see what it would be like that evening. The evening started with ‘Nichts ist umsonst’ from the Frollein Motte album ‘Zeit’ (2020). The singer initially stood behind the fans and slowly made her way to the front of the stage. This has become a tradition. And then ‘Das Frollein’ really took off, just as I have come to know and appreciate the band in the past beige times. There was a rocking mix from seventeen years of beige / Frollein Motte. Five songs from the album that gave the tour its name (Tabularasa, 2012) were on the setlist. That was really fun. By the time the official part of the show was over, it was just before midnight. So, there was only time for one song in the encore. The decision was made in favor of ‘Sandmann’ (‘Mehr geht nicht’, 2009). That was the end of the almost two-hour performance. And I have to be honest, I was thrilled. The spirit of beige is back, under the new name Frollein Motte. Nice to see and hear that Niko was back behind the battery. He provided a proper punch. And the Frollein had an impressive stage presence. She is clearly the band’s figurehead. Together with Motte, she hyped up the fans. In contrast, guitarist Jörg and bassist Fritz’s stage performance was a little static. Musically, however, they were also convincing. Small downer. Unfortunately, I missed my favorite song – ‘beige City’, with the lyric ‘We are different, we are beige’.

It was a really good evening in Marias Ballroom. It was good to be there again after so many years. And both bands did everything they could to ensure that the fans, and of course myself, enjoyed the evening. The sound and lighting were excellent as usual. Heimo and his team did a great job. I will definitely be back.
