Gengis Khan
Masters Of My Sins
Out: December 23rd, 2023 (Digital), January 15th, 2024 (CD)
Playing time: 22:13

Not much can be found out about Gengis Khan. Apparently founded in 2012 (source: Encyclopaedia Metallum) in Bologna (Italy). Three albums and one EP have been released so far. The EP “Masters Of My Sins” have followed in January 2024. Not quite true, that’s the date for the CD. The digital version was already released in December last year. The line-up list also remains a mystery. The official photo shows four musicians, while the aforementioned Encyclopaedia Metallum lists five names.

The riffs on “Masters Of My Sins” are merciless. Frank Leone’s vocals are rough and raspy. It’s easy to believe that Grave Digger are cited as a reference. “Nightmare” is then a little faster. It tends towards Speed Metal in places. But still remains melodic. The choruses spread a touch of epicness. And there are always beautiful guitar melodies. In “The Seventh Heaven”, the guitars are literally galloping. Here, too, you can hear short, tight guitar solos. And the keyboards accompany the sound, mostly discreetly. “Rising From Hell” starts with a speech sequence that seems to come from hell. Later on, however, there is less hellish sound to be heard. Probably the most melodic song on the EP. Together with “In The Land Of Darkness”. This is partly a ballad. But later, hard guitar riffs kick in again.

“Masters Of My Sins” is an EP worth listening to. After a harsh, sometimes rough start, Melodic Metal dominates later on. Fans of the aforementioned Grave Digger, but also of Running Wild, early Manowar or Venom should definitely give it a listen.
