Glorious Bankrobbers
Rock’n’Roll Church
Label: Bollmora Rekords
Out: September 27th, 2024
Playing time: 35:23

Glorious Bankrobbers were founded in Stockholm back in 1983. Their debut album was released just one year later. However, the title of this work remains a mystery. Shortly afterwards, the band broke up due to problems with the manager. A reunion took place in 1989. But this didn’t stay for long either. There was another attempt in 2007 – until 2012, when their drummer at the time, ‘Oden’, died in a road accident. The current band made a fresh start in April 2023 and the new album ‘Rock’n’Roll Church’ will be released in September.

The title track ‘Rock’n’Roll Church’ opens the album. It’s the finest Rock’n’Roll. Exactly in keeping with the title. With a distorted electric guitar solo. We can also hear Classic 80s Rock in ‘Schoolgirl’. Back to the roots! After a Fade In there’s also a lot going on in ‘Demolition Boy’. ‘The Long Drink’ is a powerful Rock stomper. ‘Hometown’ then brings Country Rock. With slide guitar. But ‘Ain’t Happy’ sounds bluesy. Guitars with a wah-wah effect can be heard. ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ takes us back to Classic Rock’n’Roll. In ‘Human Race’, the title is also the concept. The riffs and the drums are driving. But without attempting to set speed records. A guitar solo is also thrown in for good measure. You can hear eighties Rock again in ‘Baby Said’. This continues with ‘Not Me’. Finally, there’s some more Rock’n’Roll with ‘I’m Sorry’ with a harmonica solo.

On ‘Rock’n’Roll Church’, time seems to have stood still. Rock and Rock’n’Roll as it was celebrated in the early days of the band. And all the songs are radio-friendly. Not only because of the old school sound, but also because of their short length. Only one song scratches the four-minute mark. All the others are between two and a half and three and a half minutes.
