In 2022, singer and guitarist Silviu S founded the Metal band Katharein. Together with guitarist Skozy. After a few line-up changes, bassist Joey Rock and drummer Matthias Klaus joined the band. With this line-up, the Romanians began recording their debut album ‘Lucky Shots’. Together, the musicians went into the Liveset Recording Studio in Cluj-Napoca. The result has been available to listen to since December 2024.

Powerful guitars and hard drums roar out of the speakers on ‘Signs Of Warning’. I first had to get used to Silviu S’s vocals. It does seem a bit shrill. But it suits the music. The highlight is the guitar solo. ‘Outta Tomorrows’ is also powerful. Occasionally you hear hook lines from heavily distorted guitars. In ‘Firebreak’, fast guitar riffs dominate right from the start. The vocals also sound slightly raspy. ‘Adler’s Alley’ is a strong Metal anthem, rhythmic and melodic at the same time. But the title track ‘Lucky Shots’ takes things into the realm of high speeds again. ‘Ain’t Nobody’ is then calmer again. Another Metal anthem. And the alternation between melodic anthems and fast Metal continues. ‘Paradise Hunt’ belongs to the latter category. ‘One Sided Dice’, ‘Talk To Me Loud’, ‘Fried Your Brains’ and ‘Scent Of You’ can also be categorised in this way, sometimes with a hectic increase in tempo. In contrast, ‘Out Of Stars’ and ‘Under Control’ are melodic without being significantly slower. With anthemic parts.

Once you have got used to the somewhat shrill, sometimes scratchy vocals, you can listen to a good Metal album with ‘Lucky Shots’. Also, thanks to the many strong guitar solos. The songs bang powerfully out of the speakers. A successful debut album.
