KILLING TIME
THRASHED FROM THE VAULT
Full disclaimer: I love THRASH! There are plenty of close seconds, but Thrash RULES. This is an amazing collection from Throwback Records. Not merely a compilation of Thrash songs, but an amazing display of when Thrash and Death Metal ruled the South Florida music scene.
Originally released in 1992 as “Unsigned 3: Killing Time ” (Stryder Records/Conquest Music Group), this was the final release in the label’s “Unsigned ” series that was dedicated to South Florida acts.
From a Thrash loving Metalhead point of view, this is the real deal. Sure, there are shades of early Slayer, some Testament, Exodus and even Obituary. I beg the question, could any of these bands gone on to be BIG 4 worthy? Answer: probably not….and why the hell not? All the hallmarks of early Thrash are front and center.
We’ve all heard “Angel of Death” and “Toxic Waltz” and “Jump In the Fire.” I promise you, whatever made you fall in love with these songs is more than exemplified on
Amboog-a-Lard’s “The Wounded”
Fatal Sins’ “Episode”
Elysium’s “Crystal Blisters”
This whole album is basically reminiscing about things that never happened…except they did happen. I am confident you will discover some new favorites…but it’s also rabbit hole from which you won’t soon emerge.
