Maesün are an international band. The members hail from Germany, the United Kingdom and Romania. The band has been active since 2023 and is dedicated to Symphonic Power Metal. After three singles, the debut album “Remember To Die” was released in March.
A Symphonic Metal album without an “Intro”. No, such a thing is very rare. But Maesün present the listener more like a small overture here. After a short e-piano introduction, you get a foretaste of what is to come. The title track “Remember To Die” also offers an introduction at first, but soon the riffs kick in. Underpinned by a considerable amount of orchestration. Andrada Hofmeister’s vocals deserve special mention. She doesn’t even try to sing in an operatic soprano. No, she comes across as extremely rocking, with a pleasantly dark timbre. “Life In Chains” then exudes a powerful Folk Meta’ atmosphere. In contrast, “Book Of The Dead” is more likely to appeal to fans of Classic Heavy Metal. Guitar and drums are the main driving force here. “The Weaver” is a great ballad. With piano, lots of strings and a singer who can prove her vocal talent here. “Waves” can then be categorized as Symphonic Power Metal. Whereby the emphasis is on Power Metal. Which has been subtly enriched with Symphonic elements. At the end, “Fix My Heart” is once again hard-hitting. Here, the quintet rocks straight ahead with a slightly punky attitude.
I’ve listened to quite a few Symphonic Metal albums recently. All of them were somehow similar, always celebrating Rock and Metal. The orchestration was usually subordinate to this basic orientation. This is also the case on “Remember To Die”. And that is exactly what makes this album so worth listening to. Symphonic is a design feature that fits in with the sound. This means that fans who didn’t like the overloaded Symphonic Metal of earlier years will also get their money’s worth.
