‘The Fourth Turning’
Dissonance Productions
Thrash Metal
FFO: Holy Terror, Jester Beast, Thrash Bombz, Exodus, Forbidden, Nuclear Assault
Since their formation in 2013, Mindwars have been, honing their sound and craft culminating in a steady release of three studio albums that feature quality thrash metal. It is no surprise that this year has Mindwars returning to deliver their latest album ‘The Fourth Turning’.
Yes, that’s right, this latest Mindwars album is named after the opening song on their previous album ‘Do Unto Others’ and isn’t that just confusing? But, hey, it’s 2020, anything goes. In fact, 2020 runs deep throughout this album, in true thrash form, Mindwars turn their attention to world issues, civil unrest and attacking the decadent authoritarian governments that give ‘The Fourth Turning’ a real classic 80’s feel. Tracks such as ‘Fall In Line’, (Who’ll Stop the) Aryan Race’ and the track which nods to guitarist and vocalist Mike Alvord’s previous band ‘Holy Terror’ have all the appeal of Forbidden, Exodus and Nuclear Assault, so much so that if a snapshot was available of inside the listeners head, a toxic waltz would be occurring inside the skull. Furthermore, the cover of Slayer’s ‘Criminally Insane’ is decent too.
‘The Fourth Turning’ is an angry album and rightly so, this is thrash doing what thrash does best, there aren’t any gimmicks here, just musicians playing metal with an integrity and passion that is difficult not to love.
