“Overkill” The Grinding Wheel CD Review by Geir Olaisen

These guys from New Jersey is one real veterans bands and one of the oldest Thrash metal bands still around. The Grinding Wheel is their 18th studioalbum, released on February 10, 2017.

Overkill have been very consisted and have stayed to the same recipe since their first release Feel the fire in 1985. Staight up thrash with a dash of punk and hardcore here and there. After 37 year as a band the still make quality thrash album and the new album is no exception. The grinding wheel is a litle different from their previous release White Devil Armory, this album have the typical Overkill sound and a good production but on this they have mixed in some more progressive elements and groove.

Their legendary frontman Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth has still his charateristic vocal  and it is no problem recognize that this is a Overkill album.  I enjoyed this album from the first track to the last.

My favorite tracks on the album is the opening track Mean green, Killing Machine, Our finest hour a typical Overkill tracks and Shine on which is more heavy and groovy.

The Thrash legends still make very good Thrash and alot of bands have something to learn from these guys, You can still play classical thrash in 2017 and it kicks ass, not neccessary follow all the “trends” 8,5/10
