Painted Scars are still a young Heavy and Hard Rock band from Erpe-Mere in Belgium (province of East Flanders), founded in April 2023. The first single ‘Life and Alive’ was produced in July of the same year. The recordings were made at the musicians’ home. The recordings were sent to a sound engineer in Germany for mixing and mastering. The single received various positive reviews. In August 2023, the band organised a small festival in their hometown to test how the songs would be accepted live. The first EP ‘Kintsugi’ was released in August.

A loud scream from singer Jassy Blue introduces the opening song ‘Glow In The Dark’. Then the twin guitars kick in. Jassy has a slightly snotty voice. She also screams her heart out later on. A strong guitar solo is the crowning touch. It’s easy to imagine how energetic a live performance by the band is. And it continues just as powerfully with ‘Won’t Give Up’. The drums push the whole band. There are also banging riffs and, of course, the powerhouse Jassy on the microphone. There’s actually a knock at the beginning of ‘Knock Knock’. And then the brute force continues. But not quite as fast as before. I don’t think I need to mention again that the twin guitar solos are the highlight. The guitars fry on the riff-driven ‘Liquid Gold’. High-speed riffs characterise ‘Freedom’. At the very end comes rhythmic Power Metal with ‘Life And Alive’. An insane riff storm sets the tone here. A strong bass line can be heard in between.

I would love to see Painted Scars live. What the band delivers on ‘Kintsugi’ is sweat-inducing Heavy Rock. The hard sounds of the musicians drive the vocal performance of Rock belter Jassy Blue. And every single song is rounded off by a filigree guitar solo. The two guitarists pass the ball to each other. A convincing debut EP.
