Melodic hard rock from Italy? Nothing new, actually. An album written during the Covid 19 lockdown? Nothing new either. The songs for “The Golden Cage” were composed in the spring of 2020.  When the restrictions were withdrawn, Saints Trade went into the Pri Studio. Roberto Priori was responsible for the production. The cover was designed by Aeglos Art (Wheels of Fire, Platens, among others). The album was released at the end of March.

The opening song, “Neverland”, starts with heavy riffs and driving drums. But despite all that, very melodic. And of course a guitar solo is not to be missed. “Break The Chain” is a little quieter. But the calm does not last long. Already “Casino Royale” increases the pace again. An extremely atmospheric song, with a sing-along chorus. “Stay With Me” is a ballad. Fittingly for an album written in lockdown, “Lockdown Blues” follows. And yes, a slight bluesy touch can be heard. But actually the song exudes joy of life. With “Mirror Of Myself” the guitars are roaring again. “Together We Stand” is a bit quieter again, with beautiful melodic lines. And finally, the fast rockers “Double Trouble” and “Born To Do (What I Want)” follow.  

Anyone who thinks that the Italians have only been moping around during their hard lockdown is sorely mistaken. The best example is this album, which is bursting with fun. Certainly, “The Golden Cage” is not an outstanding album. But it spreads a lot of positive moods, which should make you forget the problems of everyday life. At least for a forty-minute period.
