Senses
Out Of Line
Out: July 7th, 2024
Playing time: 33:55

Well. Yet another review request with virtually no information about the band and album. And this little information was only available on request. The fact is, Senses seem to be a new band. If you look at the posts on Facebook, it seems likely that the band was formed around March or April this year. The names of the band members are also more or less meaningful fantasy names. I would like to point out that the band photo shows four musicians, but when I asked, five names were listed. The debut album ‘Out Of Line’ was self-released in July. With active support from Bob Katsionis (production, recording, mixing) and Nasos Nomikos (mastering). The album artwork was created by Angelos Margaritis.

After a short synth and guitar intro, ‘Silent Disco’ develops into a powerful guitar-driven Rock song. Andy White’s vocals are powerful and clear. ‘Lonely’ captivates with melodic guitar melodies that grab the listener. The title of ‘Hard Action’ is a concept. The Heavy-Metal-like riffs and the big guitar hooks are driving. On the Rock anthem ‘I Know’, the vocal duet is particularly impressive. Who is the partner here? Unfortunately, there is no information about that. But the Greeks are musically convincing, with great guitar solos. The title track ‘Out Of Line’ is again characterised by strong guitar melodies. The anthem ‘Under Your Spell’ starts with keyboard sounds and clean guitars. Later, riffs and drums provide the heaviness. However, only the beginning is ballad-like. Later on, there are more hooks reminiscent of the great days of eighties hard rock. In ‘Give Me Life…’, the AOR of days gone by is interpreted in a harder way and thus brought into the modern era. Finally, there is an acoustic version of ‘…Charlize’. I don’t know if there is a version with electric guitars. At least not on the album. But in any case, this song offers a contemplative end to the album.

Senses can’t deny it. They are big fans of the 80s Glam and Hard Rock. ‘Out Of Line’ is a nostalgic reminder of that time. Retro sound is successfully interwoven with modern sound elements. Again and again, you can hear great guitar solos. And the recurring synths (who?) don’t seem artificial but fit organically into the overall sound.
