Almost two years after “Ritual Warfare”, Temtris have completed the follow-up “Khaos Divine”. This is the seventh album of the Australian Heavy Metal outfit around frontwoman Genevieve Rodda. I liked “Ritual Warfare” exceptionally well. So, I just had to listen to the current album.
The opener “The Grand Design” is an instrumental track. Where other bands put a bland intro at the beginning, Temtris have opted for an excellent song. Here, the lead guitars clearly dominate. With the title song “Khaos Divine”, the musicians from Down Under then get down to work much harder. They have to, because singer Genevieve Rodda lets her powerful vocal voice sound, with an impressive vocal range. Even with “Eternal Death Machine”, they bang away mercilessly, partly in the speed metal area. But not all the time. While Genevieve sings, it gets a bit quieter. In the middle part there are great twin guitar runs. And the guitar solo is the icing on the cake. Also in “Dreams Or Reality” the guitars gallop ahead. And the rhythm section (Nicholas Bolin – drums and Vane Danov – bass guitar) provide a banging foundation. With the riff monster “The Lies Become The Truth” Temtris take a little bit of speed out. “The Path” starts ballad-like with clean guitar sounds. Even later, the song hardly gets out of the midtempo. A great Metal hymn, whereas “Revenge” has very rhythmic riffing. “Evolution Of Hate” is much harder and faster, driven by double bass attacks, the musicians rise to the top. After a quiet piano introduction, “Ground Zero” mutates into a real Speed Metal grenade. The musicians explode one last time, in the truest sense of the word.
Put your fists in the air, Heavy Metal crowd. Temtris deliver a sweaty performance of more than fifty minutes. From a purely musical point of view, I would rate the band around Genevieve Rodda as some other Rock Metal export from the southern island continent. The singer is clearly the figurehead. And she is greatly supported by her bandmates on the instruments. What I would like to hear is a real power ballad. Temtris have indicated in several places that they can do this.
