Thrash Metal

Thrasherwolf planted their flag into the thrash metal scene in 2018 with their warmly received EP ‘Blood Moon’ and now, fast forward two years and the London thrashers are back with their debut album ‘We Are Revolution’.
This album may have been released 30 years after the heyday when thrash ruled the waves, but these young lads know what they’re doing and play like no time has elapsed at all. Yet, ‘We Are Revolution’ is not a thrash album which thrashes away at the low E whilst the double bass drumming drowns out everything in the lower register. No, for their age, Thrasherwolf have delivered an exceptionally mature album that is brimming with technicality and thought provoking lyrics and even thought the opening to the album sounds like it was taken from a live concert by W.A.S.P., it picks up the pace very quickly. Tracks such as ‘War’, ‘Vortex’ and ‘Good Old Fashioned Violence’ stand alongside the likes of Testament, Heathen and Death Angel whilst keeping one foot firmly in the contemporary being equally as enjoyable as Warbringer, Evile and Hatchet with their impressive guitar passages and overall excellent musicianship with the only real issues being that some of these tracks tend to lean a little bit on the long side and it would be nice for the drums to be a tad forward in the mix.
‘We Are Revolution’ is an impressive start to a band hungry to get out of the blocks, yes some of the tracks may touch upon generic thrash at times, but this is overshadowed by the better songs and it will be interesting to see where the band go from here.
