Vis Mystica from Pennsylvania (USA) play Power Metal. Band founder Connor McCray draws a lot of inspiration from the Star Wars saga. He started founding the band in 2015. What a musical transformation. At that time, he was still a member of a Blackened Death Metal band. But it then took almost five years for the idea to become reality. The songwriting also went on for a long time, so that “Celestial Wisdom” was not released until the beginning of December 2022. Digitally with five songs. On the physical CD you will find three additional bonus tracks.
The opener “Whispering Winds Of Fate” is also the shortest of the EP. According to mastermind Connor McCray, the fictional planet Tython is introduced here, where a telepathic civilisation lives. Classic straightforward Power Metal. “Legacy Of The Builders” sounds a bit more hectic. No wonder, because here it’s about the antagonists “the brutal Rakatan Empire”. In other words, the typical good/evil scenario. Surprisingly, however, a clear baritone can be heard here. In contrast to this is the extremely fast, partly hectically played guitar solo. Back to Tython. “The Plains Of Silence” sounds more cheerful. And swings up into Speed Power Metal realms. With high-pitched Metal screams and an energy performance by the drummer. Also “Lux Et Verita” starts quite fast. But in the background you can hear a xylophone, like in many a Christmas song. Nevertheless, Vis Mystica do not deviate from the Power Metal paths. The theme is an exile who has foreseen a war between Tython and Rakatan. In “Beyond The Gates Of Fury”, the battle between the two hostile civilisations is obviously processed musically. So the prophecy has come true after all. The song sounds correspondingly combative, characterised by angry guitars. However, the result of the battle remains open. In other words, a typical cliffhanger, as found in many film and television series.
The Star Wars disciples have created their own universe on “Celestial Wisdom”. Vis Mystica’s sound is classic Power Metal, without too many frills. And thanks to the closing song, further EP or album releases are to be expected. The mastermind confirms this in his accompanying text. And we can certainly look forward to the continuation of the Tython / Rakatan saga.
May the Force be with you!
