Break The Silence

Out: 20. September 2024

Voltstorm hail from the British capital of London and were founded in 2019. Only vocalist John D. Prasec and drummer Ivo Yordanov are still on board from that time.
Their music features strong riffs, powerful drumming, catchy vocals, and a mix of electronic and classical influences, drawing comparisons to bands like Helloween, Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Judas Priest.
This can be read on the band’s homepage. In addition to six singles, the self-titled debut was self-released in 2022, with six songs and a playing time of 30:10 minutes, bordering on EP length. ‘Break The Silence’, released in September, is significantly longer. And the musicians have since founded their own label, on which the second work was released.
Rolling thunder creates a gloomy atmosphere during the instrumental intro ‘Stormchaser’. Later, powerful guitars and hard drumming kick in. A better kind of intro. The first regular song ‘Judas’ opens with harsh riffs and again heavy drumming. John D. Prasecist’s vocals are powerful and can easily keep up with the thunderstorm of riffs. The guitar hooks are convincing and stay in the ear. The Brits also really get going with the Hard Rocker ‘Wake Me Up’. A short, gradually more powerful bass line introduces ‘Lambs’. Before the riffs start banging out of the speakers again. Some parts seem slightly progressive. ‘Eye Of The Storm’ is not quite as fast but extremely rhythmic. You also have to be prepared for some melodic and rhythmic changes. So you have to listen carefully. The tempo and rhythm also vary on ‘Evil Eyes’. At the beginning there are acoustic guitars, later it gets punchy. In places there are quotes in the direction of speed metal. ‘Rise Above’ also starts quietly and with acoustic guitars. At first we hear a contemplative ballad. But later, heavily distorted guitar riffs are added. Without, however, leaving the ballad like area significantly. The title track ‘Break The Silence’, which is mostly mid-tempo, is one of the quieter songs. Here the Brits can score with beautiful melodies. Especially the catchy chorus. ‘Black Cage’ is also mostly mid-tempo. Even if the hard riffs and the guitar solo towards the end pick up some speed. Finally, ‘Destroyer’ is a real neck breaker. Here Voltstorm step on the musical gas pedal once again.
The songs on ‘Break The Silence’ sound bulky and often have a progressive edge. This shows that you have to listen carefully. The quality of the songs only becomes apparent after listening to them several times. But the album grows with every listen. A successful second album.
